[SLE] leafnode/pine hosts.allow problem

Hi guys, I am trying to setup Leafnode and Pine so I can use it to readnewsgroups. I have done this successfully under redhat but I cant seem to get it to work using Suse 6.3 I have setup Leafnode as per the /usr/doc/packages/leafnode/readme.suse and it appears to be ok as I have used fetchnews to get the initial newsgroups headers. The problem is with pine. When I try to open the folder for newsgroups within pine I get a error as follows [Connection failed to localhost.localhost.localdomain,119: Connection refused] I think I have either not setup the nntp variable correctly or the permissions are not right in the hosts.allow Should the NNTPSERVER variable be the same as the FQHOSTNAME which are both in the /etc/rc.config? And how should I set up permission in the /etc/hosts.allow file? Hey Jack, Sorry to hear that it snared ya this time around. Here's a couple of things that can help you combat virii propagated in/by scripting languages or batch files: 1) Unplug your machine from the LAN when you boot Windows - that blocks you from reinfecting the network, and gives you a chance to see what's been changed around by the virus. 2) Check for patterns that would indicate that it's been replicating. A good clue is a large number of small files, all with the same length, and all last modified on, or about the same time, today. 3) Check your registry - usually, scripting and batch file virii make changes to HKEY_CLASSES_LOCAL_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Run . If you see any keys that look amiss - usually pointing to a file that matches the search pattern you just looked at from item 2, export it and delete it. Then reboot the system and see if it's still behaving strangely or if it's come back. There are other things, but these are the basics. Let me know if you'd like more assistance... [SLE] <Q> Using the MPU-401 to play MIDI music files

What is the trick for sending a MIDI file to the built-in synth on my soundcard? My particlar card has an SB16 compatible MPU-401 port on 0x330, but I imagine the command/program is similar for all MPU-401 type cards. I don't know the command to use (will cat do, and are there nice player frontends?) and I don't know the right device name or major/minor numbers. I have tried kmidi (which uses the timidity engine - an all software synthesizer which sends the digital audio to /dev/dsp) but it is too demanding on my old CPU (150 Mhz) which runs flat out and still breaks up the sound, so I would like to use the hardware synth. [SLE] X and 6.4 evaluation version

I cannot start X. Sax works well and configures a XF86Config without any problem. However when I try starting X I get the following message: execve failed for /usr/X11R6/bin/X (errno 2) Even more puzzling is the fact that I could start it a few times, with different window managers but now it doesn't start anymore. AFAIK execve is a C language statement. But it gives me no clue how to get around this problem. It is the first time I encounter it. [SLE] Problems with kmp3 and SuSE6.4.....

Every time I start kmp3 it crashes my sound enviroment and I have to reboot my system.... I worked under SuSE 6.3. Anybody else having the same problems????? My system consist of: Asus P3B-F Intel Celeron 366 Creative SB128 STB Voodoo3 2000 PCI SuSE 6.4 Out of the Retail Box....... [SLE] Plextor PX-R412C (CD Writer)

I've been trying to use this drive under SuSE 6.4 and cdrecord is barfing on the device handle "PX-R412C" .. I checked www.suse.com hardware database and it lists as status uknown but when you select this model, it's showing the driver is supported. How can I get cdrecord to recognize this drive? [SLE] Help on routing

I am stumped.... I have 2 win boxes behind a SuSE 6.3 box that I want to use as a router. >Fromone of the Win98 boxes I can ping the Linux box eth0 and eth1 nics using a 5 port hub between the 2 boxes(Once I can get the 1 Win98 box to talk out to the net the other Win98 box can be brought on line). I can't get the Linux box to forward the ping command from the Win98 box to the net gateway. I have read the ipchains, ipforwarding, firewall and masQing how-to's, the section in the SuSE 6.3 manual on networking and routing, yet it all leaves me more confused than when I started. How do I get my Linux box to secure the connection from the net (i.e. shutdown any intruders from the net while allowing both Win98 boxs and the Linux box to access the net?)
