Hi All, I've finally found a Win98 FTP client that works on my Masqueraded network .. FTP Voyager. But the throuput is painfully slow ( about 500 cps ) on an average ..when i have a 64kbps ISDN link .( From a standalone machine on 33.6k modem PPP .. i get 1500 cps at least ) FTP Voyager allows several adjustments in connection properties : Receive and send timeouts ( 61-600 seconds ), send / receive buffers ( 512-65536 bytes ) , Active & passive modes ... What might help ? i) kernel upgrade from 2.2.14 to 2.2.16 ( I run Redhat 6.2 & SuSe 6.4 ) ii) Ethernet card config ? iii ) Any other suggestions ? [SLE] Another problem with diald

Thank Lenz for your help. I try to configure the diald, but now I'm trying configure the connection. When I use the instruction "diald -daemon" from another terminal I see that appear the interface tap0 instead of sl0. The interface says: tap0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr FE:FD:00:00:00:00 inet addr:170.210.81.15 Bcast:0.0.0.0 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frames:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 interrupt:5 and the modem doesn't dial. [SLE] Network dies during transfer

First, the old news: I got ssh working. I kinda figured I compiled/installed correctly, I just had to use the SSHWin client from www.ssh.com. I could not get putty to work on my WinNT client, nor could I get NiftyTelnet to work from my Macintoshes. I guess I need to write better e-mail, I requested some basic info on how the ssh process works in general, but it was interpreted as a cry for client software, which I already had. I still don't really know what's going on, so if anybody wants to chime in on ssh in general. I did find a ssh newsgroup that is pretty helpful. OK, the new news: Now my network dies during file transfers from either my Macintosh or Window NT machine using any form of transfer- ftp on the LAN, or an atalk or samba share. If I'm transferring, say a 150MB file, it will copy 15-20MB and then freeze on the client side. I go to my SuSE box and I can't PING the network anymore, my ipchains don't work and I have to restart the network using init 1 and then init 2. Then it works again. It stays up (as long as I don't use it) and I can surf through my cable modem using either my Macs or Windows machines, but if I try to transfer a file, the above happens. This is basically the same set-up I've had working perfectly and reliably for months, except for the ssh addition. I killed ssh and restarted the network and the problem is the exact same. I read my messages log and there's nothing too weird in there either. How can I trouble shoot this problem?
