I understand that there is no problem with reading general data and music files from DVD's in Linux but there is still unclear situation with watching DVD movies on Linux box. Could somebody please tell me or point to the source of information where I can read how to watch DVD movies on Linux. P.S. I've read something about Linux application which allows to do this but I don't know where to find it. I remember this article informed about a possible law suite against an author of this application from DVD movey producing companies. I don't care about legality I just want to watch DVD movies. tar restore of win98 and portugese

I've done this many times with no problems. This particular win98 partition has some software on it for a brazilian national. It is brazilian software. This software will not restore from the tape. The error I get is that it cannot create the directory. I get the feeling that my problem has something to do with language support in the kernel. When I tarred it from the disk there were no error messages. I hope that means that the data is on the tape and all I got to do is figure out how to get it off. I beleive 860 is for portuguese support. Am I even on the right track here. I think in the above error message that the "\207?o de..." is pointing me to a language thing. At the bottom fo this message is a piece of /var/log/messages This is for a Compaq Armada 7800 wit a 3com Megahertz Cardbus 10/100, but the NIC does not seem to be the problem, I also used some other PCMCIA nicks for testing and the same happens. SuSE7.0 standard kernel, stander PCMCIA package, though I also tried the one that came with 6.2 (and recompiled that one) but still the same. I have run this machine with 2.2.14 to 2.2.17 pristine kernels without problem, but the 2.2.16.SuSE seems to be the culprit here. Is there someone (at SuSE,?) I can communicate with to get this solved because it is REALLY driving me up the wall, bonkers, nuts etc. etc. Each time I need to do some scp-ing,ssh-ing, ftp-ing, remoteX-ing It just does this within 30 sec's ! Here's the situation: One Penium 60 (no PCI slots), and a couple of other PC's being a mixture of different pentiums 100+ mhz, running on Win98 or SuSE7.0 I have a 10mbps hub, but now I also bought a 100mbps one(not a switch), which was reasonably cheap. All of the sytems have a 10/100mbps nic, except for the Pentium60, which doesn't support PCI. I use the P60 as a firewall/gateway to the outside world. I wanted to save some money and not buy an extra 10/100mbps hub, so I put second nic in my main fileserver, which is always switched on anyway. I hooked it up to the 10mbps hub to let it connect to the P60-firewall. Still with me? So now the situation is as follows: P60: SuSE7.0, 1 isdn card connected to outside plus 1 nic 10mbps connected to 10mbps hub P500: SuSE 7.0, 1 pci nic 100 mbps connected to 100mbsp hub and one nic 10 mbps connected to 10 mbps hub All others are connected to 100 mbps hub. P60 hub10 P500 hub100 ----------- ------- ----------- ------- ISP <----->| ISDN | |10mbps |<----->|192.168.2.1| |100mbps|<--> others |192.168.2.5|<----->| hub | |192.168.1.1|<---->| hub | (192.168.1.*) ----------- ------- ----------- ------- P60 does nothing but firewalling and gatewaying and vbox. (Very small HD) P500 does DNS, YPserver, Samba, mail etc. All others are just clients (win and SuSE) Now there are two problems: 1. I can see (ping, telnet etc) P500 from P60 and from all other PC's. I can also get to P60 from P500. But to all others P60 is invisible and vice versa. 2. I cannot get ypclient to work on P60 (domain not bound), but it does work on other Linux machines connected to the 100mbps hub. And a question: Do I have to use a different 3rd part of the ip-address (eg .2.5 vs .1.5) when using 2 hubs? I've tried the searching the howto's and other docs, but to no avail. Can anybody point me in the right direction? I have to set up a web server and I created an install-script with a SuSE 7 system which automatically partitions and formats a RAID5 system into three partitions /boot 16MB swap 128 MB / the rest and then copies a tested SuSE system to the drives and runs LILO at the end. If I now reboot the system all I get is 'LI', which quite frankly even after searching the SDB and the web for help doesn't mean much to me and I have no clue what might did go wrong. I compiled the newest AMI MegaRAID 1.08 driver as a module, and it seemed to work as it could mount the Array while booting from the diskettes which ran the script, and also I think it isn't even loaded at this point while booting. So any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated (and pls don't paste the LILO error code descriptions, I know them by now). I cannot get that much more information (sadly), as the web server is on a remote location and is not installed directly by me. Thanks in advance! mathias rockel
