problems with Xfree 4.0.1 with suse 7.0

The problem is as follows: when I run "startx" everything seems ok until the window manager is up. The problems is that there are four bad artifacts (four vertical lines in the screen) that disrupt the contents on the screen. I mean, everything looks alright, but the vertical lines. I don't know what to do, I have tried everything and I am almost sure that somebody has had that problem. I am using the sis530 (maybe somebody already gave up with this). In any case please let me know because I really need to work on the environment and those silly lines are quite disgusting. -wuilbert Jaramillo

I thought the rpms were packaged every month while the diffs were suppose to be daily. This is not the case. I had to remove all the stuff for my ens1371 from modules.conf before alsaconf to get it to load correctly. Also seems I remember that the only sound module that should be loaded before alsaconf is "soundcore.o" and it is required to be there before starting configuration. I just couldn't stand the panel and the lack of menu configurability any longer (or all the little icons, either). Anyway, I have found that I really like gmc as a file manager, and I also use a number of other gnome apps as well, so gnome is still on my system. I was wondering-- is there a way to fire up gmc, and not have the icons for the cdrom and floppy show up on my desktop?
