Can't connect to local network

But for some reason I'm not able to connect to my very local network at home. I've got the following setup Mac G4 --------------------- Hub ------------------ PowerBook (IP 10.1.1.2) | (IP 10.1.1.3) | | PC running SuSE (IP 10.1.1.11) The problem is that I from the Linux machine can access the httpd server (on the same machine) using the address 10.1.1.11, the same goes for ping, telnet and ftp. If I start a webserver on the G4 machine I can reach it from the PowerBook BUT I can't ping the Linux machine from one of the Macs, neither can I reach it using telnet, a web browser or a ftp client (I get the message "can't find machine"). If I from the Linux machine try to ping the G4 machine or to access the web server it, I just get the message that it can't find the machine. The Linux machine is connected to the hub and the indicators on the network card and the hub is turned on. I tried looking at the routing table but as I understand it (from reading the manual) it should work. Here is how it looks, using "route -n": Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 127.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 I assume that I missing some basic thing but I can't figure out what. Except for one error concerning Intel840 or something similar in os-interface.c which you have to compile out. I just installed LILO in the MBR rather than the boot sector of the root partition and everything now works. 2 months delay in being able to use a CD-RW. I have no idea why this should be. The device is /dev/sr0 and not /dev scd0. Could it not be included in the documentation somewhere? I'd really like to thank everyone who has tried to help. Still no news from the still open ticket from SuSE. 6 weeks later. Now to try to understand xcdroast and stop it crashing! Thanks again, Steve.

Arkeia could have been a nice solution, but as far as i know, it only works with dat's and not tapesteamers, and taper it to complex (say to dos-alike) for the endusers.anybody any other idea's? Problems with remote printing

I want to print from my laptop (Suse 6.4) to a remote printer in other location (RedHat 6.0), between us there is a WAN. I setup a queue pointing to the remote server, but I get stuck here.... The status is allways "Waiting for queue in 192.168.9.18 to be enable...". The server`s host.lpd has my name and my IP is in host. I have telneted the port 515 and I get some garbage saying "...EPSON_adm01..." (this is the queue name...). I thought it was something with my printcap so i changed the server IP to one here in my location.. and it worked OK!!!! So, the only thing I can think of is that the slow link bothers... We are 60ms away...(pinging). Is there any way to print with such link? Or I`m missing something? Thanks in advance. _______________________ Matias A. I get ' ... not recognised as block device'. The HOWTO has a script which tells me that I am missing the module sr_mod. I have SuSE 7.0 on a new machine and they tell me that with the pentium optimised kernel that this is all I need. What is this sr_mod stuff? BTW, my DVD drive still works fine on hdd. The CDRW is hdc. Any ideas anyone?

Question about gvim.

I have SuSE 6.4 installed on my system at work and had installed both vim-5.6-19 as well as gvim-5.6-23. I remember that when I had compiled this on Solaris, that gvim had the option to compile with either the athena widgets (puke), X11, or gtk widgets. I compiled it to use the gtk widgets on the Solaris system. The rpm that came with SuSE 6.4 is compiled to use only the athena widgets! Why is that? Does anyone know if there is an rpm for gvim that has been compiled to use the gtk widgets? I have helixcode GNOME on my system as well. If there isn't an rpm I guess I could just download the source and compile and install it. I just like using rpms. Thanks in advance. Matthew R.
