I use Mstboot for Windows and Mstboot to run lilo for Linux. It's very simple: after installing, at the bootstrap you wil be prompted to a graphical window in wich you can choose (by arrows keys) which system to boot. If you choose Windows, then windows can start and crash your system as usually, if you choose Linux, then lilo starts. It's very stable; I never had problem. You can find it at: http://www.mstboot.com Unfortunately mstboot is shareware, but it's very cheap. If you decide to give it a try, mail me for some more explanation about logical partitions and mstboot.. It can handle up to 12 O.S. on primary, extended, logical partitions. Maybe (surely.. ;) lilo can do better, but mstboot is very easy to use. I had it on my PC before than installing Linux; I needed it to boot Win95 and Win3.11, so I continued to use it. [SLE] KPPP -Us Robotics 56k Mdm-Fax Problem

Hi all, i whant to comment an extrange problem. Had changed my standrd 36k modem for a 56k Us.Robotics modem Fax and Kppp now is doing strange things: When i set the speed to 56K, on ATI7 (i thing 7)shows 56K, ok. But when it dials (checking at log), always fit an additional character at the end of the commands, and returns NO CARRIER after a real call, have the same problem with 110K, diferent character, but not if i set to 210K (i dont remeber exactly speed),it runs but ATI7 reports 9600, and really goes at 9600, ¿?. Any idea what's around ?? Forget LILO, forget BootMagic, forget System Commander ... I have tried them all over the past seven years+ of dual booting ... the one I strongly recommend is BlueSky's Power Boot. It is cheap, and resides entirely on the MBR (so you don't need a boot partition). Most importantly, it will allow you to boot any partition on any drive (good to know if you are trying to boot above cyl. 1024). Maybe BootMagic has finally caught up (I looked at this product when it first came out) but I have never had reason to look at any other product since installing Power Boot. With any of these programs, you will install lilo on the logical drive within the extended partition, and then using the boot management program specify that logical partition as bootable. To use PB, run the install program and reboot. When you reboot, you will get a boot screen that you can use to specify which partitions are bootable and thereby create a boot menu very quickly. You will most likely not even need to read the documentation (but you probably should skim it first). There are no configuration files at all except what resides on the MBR. [SLE] Using HP1100A printer to scan under Linux

I've installed an HP1100A laserjet printer with built in copier/scanner. Works great as a printer under SuSE 6.3. Anyone know how to use the scanner? I've heard of programs like SANE(?) but I'm not sure they will work. The program would have to scan from the parallel (printer) port. [SLE] picking the write firewall/proxy

Ok, folks I have my IP Chains firewall up and running. I have faith that I will keep out all the most ambitious hackers, which I believe would go looking for bigger targets any how. Now I need to worry about security going the OTHER way... My wife want me to allow her daughter (11 years-old) to have one of the older laptops in her bedroom. I only objection is unlimited access to the Internet from behind closed doors. I don't think this lovely young lady will get into anything, but I am one that likes to error by way of caution. I also don't want to block either my access or my wifes from anything. I have used M$ Proxy 2, I know that it is designed to control everything coming and going. With M$ Proxy 2, if the software is not able to go through a SOCK Proxy, it cannot get out, unless it is a Windows app using the M$ Proxy Client WinSuck, opps that is WinSock, DLL. Like I said, I have an IP Chain Firewall running with IP Masquerading. I want any changes I make to be transparent, except to my step daughter when she is using the system in her room, to everyone. What is the best way to do this? I do like the idea of running a caching proxy to help overall speed. And finally, does anyone know where I can get a list of knows sites that I should block, like those x rated sites, hate sites, and HOWTO's for pipe bombs and things.
