[SLE] Setting up sbpcd in SuSE 6.3

I noticed that ever since I installed SuSE 6.3, my cdrom module loads and scans at each boot up. This really increases boot up time. I am using the sbpcd module With the default settings for my soundblaster pro cdrom. I never had this problem before ( didn't do this in previous releases 5.3- 6.2) so I don't know where the file is located that needs edited to stop this unnecessary scanning. Can anyone tell me which file I need to edit? I tried using YaST and selecting the soundblaster pro module again, but it doesn't seem to change it. I also looked at the rc.config and modules.conf, but could not find any mention of scanning. Helo, A friend uses a diamont stealth II G460 card, the KDE display show enlarged characters. We tried to modify the xfconfig file but with no succes. The x-server used is SVGA. Which server should be used with this card, anybody any experience. If I had the choice: ASUS P3B-F MotherBoard PIII 450-500 256 Megs RAM SCSI Hard Drive Ultra2(choice is IBM 10,000 RPM) Adaptec Ultra2 Controller Some Digital based NIC, like Netgear or SMC Video Card is irrerevant for Server What I mean here is that this is ideal. I believer that I/O will be important in you case. Then it is important that you have the SCSI Ultra2 Drive and Controller if at all possible. Your Memory and CPU should be fine. If you can not aford a SCSI setup I recommend the Quantum Katana IDE Drives at 7200 RPM's. The network dummy again in setting up a network between two computers. First I want to thank Robet Paulsen, Jr and Cliff Pankonion for their earlier responses. I have been been doing some surfing on the auction sits for the components I need. A quess has come up concerning the rj45 cable to connect things up. Do you use a straight through wiring on the cable or do you use a crossover cable. [SLE] howto to backup, repartition, restore?

I have SuSE 6.2 running on a box that I am using as a web server, dhcp server, samba server, firewall, NIS server, NFS server, and to IP Masquerade. It has a 10 gig HD in it... The Partitions: -------------------- How would YOU partition the 10 Gig hard drive? Why? The Bootdisk ---------------------- My understanding is that the OS on the HD should NOT be running when backing the whole things up. This implies to me that I should boot off a floppy and manually mount the hard drive to backup everything to the DAT drive. How do I make a boot floppy with SCSI support which I can use to backup the box? The Backup to and Restore from DAT ------------------------------------------------ Once I boot off the floppy and manually mount the current hard drive to /mnt, I need to do a backup of the hard drive. Is 'tar cvf /dev/st0 /mnt' the best way to backup the hard drive to the DAT drive? If not, what is the best way do backup everything under /mnt? How can I check to see if the backup worked? Do I need to rewind the tape or do anything else other then 'tar xvf /dev/st0 /mnt' to restore the contents? The Bootable HD -------------------------- Considering I am going to be repartitioning and then formating the hard drive, I am going to need to make Linux bootable after I restore everything... How do I make the HD bootable, after the repartitioning, formating, and restoring? [SLE] Pointing to so-called "missing" files?

Hello, How can one ensure that libraries, modules, etc are located when compiling an app? Periodically, when compiling an error appears, reporting that a file, etc, cannot be located. However, the file does exist - just not where the compiler expects it to be. Can I use symbolic links to resolve this problem?
