[SuSE Linux] @home works this way with their IP assignments.

They do not assign static ip's. The ip's will pretty much remain static, but they want to keep them unassigned just in case they have to administrate the numbers. I've had the same ip for a year... of course... this is Nashville and little changes very fast. But just thought I'd let you all know. The ip's aren't static, but within all estimations, they could be considered that until @home does something major. Later all, Ryan White Ps- Thanks sooo much for all the help. Hello everyone, If I sound like a wino... er... winner... then move on and don't give me grief. I'm very thankful to everyone who's helped me thus far with installing and configuring my system at home. I still don't have the internet up, hence why I only write while at work. Now.... I'm going to reinstall SuSE 6.1 again. I've RTFM and they didn't help any. I can recite alot of the HOWTO's... no avail... here is the problem. My ethernet card, 3c509 3com card is autodetected and uses IRQ 10. My @home cable box detects the pc. The route -n command shows that IP 24.2.112.0 is attached to the web. My netmask and GW are also setup. Everything looks find and dandy... Cept I can't reach the network. I have set my hostname as ci339903-a and my domain name as nash1.tn.home.com So my computer is ci339903-a.nash1.tn.home.com It's seeing the ip of my machine, eg... 24.2.112.35 as this hostname and domain name. It's like the computer thinks my provider is me. I'm not sure. I'm so frustrated, it's been a whole week of getting everything else to work, but no having a network connection. No big deal, but that is what I want Linux for. To tell the truth, I've come close to trashing the CD's and reinstalling win95. Won't happen, but almost did. If anyone out there is setup on an @home service provider, or ethernet connection... can you share some insite with me. I recieved a letter yesterday that allowed me to setup everything correctly... but it still would not send recieve anything outside my computer. I think the fact my hostname and domain name are what my computer see's as 24.2.112.35 and I don't know... I'm a newbie. Love to think about a MS free system... but I've mastered windows... just would like something like linux that allows me to edit my programs. YA know. Anyhow... any help would be much appreciated. [SuSE Linux] scrolling in x-windows

[SuSE Linux] MS Proxy Server

I have a friend who is running SuSE on one of his boxen for the first time and he has MS Proxy server on his network at home. Someone told him you can connect the Linux box through this proxy server .. is this true, I don't know much about it. If it's not can someone point me to where I can get the info to help him? [SuSE Linux] Adaptec chipset?

I am wondering if anyone knows if the Adaptec 7895 series chipset that is on the Tyan Thunder dual cpu MB will work with SuSE 6.1.
