For example, it wasn't until I swapped my STB Velocity 128 and Belinea 10-60-90 cheapo 19" monitor into my Linux system that I discovered I could get 1600x1200 out of it - at a nice quick flicker-free refresh rate too. I've been running it like that ever since. [SuSE Linux] Modem Conf. Zoom 2919

Hi, I just got a Zoom int. isa 56k dual model 2919 faxmodem. Before that I had a simple telepath 14.4k which used com1, irq4. I shut down my system took out the old modem card. I modified the jumpers on the new Zoom isa card as follows: 1) disable pnp via jumper 2) select com1 via jumper 3) select irq4 via jumper I thought it would be a simple swap, one modem for the other. My bios has PnP disabled by the way. I swapped my new zoom int. modem in. I booted the system...and...: wvdialconf tells me there is nothing there! when I look at proc/ioports I see that com1 and com1 addresses have been assigned to serial(auto). I'm using kernel 2.2.7. [SuSE Linux] swap and mkswap in 2.2 kernels

Just something I noticed with my new system and a question about compilation... I noticed that with swaps over 128mb that 2.2.9 requires the new mkswap or at least here the swap will not initialize in the boot sequence but with 2.0.36 it does without a issue. I read the changes docs and it discusses this. One thing in 2.0.36 is that you could do a bigger swapper it seems but that kernel would only see 128. Now you have to get the later utils for mkswap with larger swapfiles. Second, this is my first k6 II chip. What is the right processor speed to compile against in the 2.2 kernels? I see an option for the K6 with some enhancements. [SuSE Linux] Configuration advice

I've just upgraded from a 800M Linux partition to a 8.4G HD. I'm running SuSE 6.0 with 64M ram, and I've configured two 100M swap partitions on the new drive. Since I upgraded, my system has slowed down -dramatically-. Boot times are about double (in particular 'setting up ld.so.cache'), launching some apps (notably Netscape) is slower, ls is slower... I'd originally just partitioned the drive as one 4G partition, with the rest unassigned. I then reinstalled with a 500M root partition, the two swap partitions, and the remainder formatted into ~1G chunks, each assigned to various directories. Neither confiuration provided any notable perforance boost. (I also tried turning off both swap partitions, since I know Linux has an issue with ram over 64M, but no apparent difference there either. I assume that the problem applies only to physical ram, but please correct me if I'm wrong). So, any ideas what I can do to increase the performance back to the neighborhood where it was prior to the upgrade. Thanks! [SuSE Linux] My Voodoo3 2000 PCI isn't supported

I recently installed SuSE 6.1 and was so happy with it that I replaced my windows98 box with it too. I ran into a problem however when I tried to install X though. My card wasn't on the list in SaX so I read into it and found that XFree86 doesn't support 3dfx cards. I was forced to use a VGA16 server to get X to even run. It runs great and all, but I can't even see images on the web, and this 640x480 resolution doesn't even show the entire KDE panel. I would really like to have my 3Dfx Voodoo3 2000 PCI work again. It had absoluetly fabulous performance when I had Win98 and I know it could with X too. I hear that some people write servers for unsupported cards and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find one for this card, or if you just knew of a sight that posted the unsupported servers on it. Also, if their isn't one, I would gladly take suggestions for new cards that are around $150 and have as good as if not better performance. Just keep in mind that this computer doesn't have an AGP port. Any help is greatly appreciated. This is how I have Informix set up: Informix is installed in: /opt/informix My machine name is: dnohome The last line of the sqlhosts file looks like: dnohome_se seipcpip dnohome sqlexec Variables set are: INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix INFORMIXSQLHOSTS=/opt/informix/etc/sqlhosts INFORMIXSERVER=dnohome_se Hope this helps. The weird errors I reported I was getting in the log files form diald-0.99 don't matter, it seems: they are an indication the system is actually doing the "right thing". Here is the explanation from the diald maintainer (BTW, I've had no other detectable problems with diald-0.99 so far under the 2.2 kernels so this amounts to a clean bill of health for diald-0.99 as far as I can see). Hey all, Really quick, does anyone have a copy of the Uptime Daemon program written by Matthew Trent and Mike Baker version 0.7.1? The websites been down for about 2 months and I lost my .gz copy that I had.
