[SLE] 6.3 Upgrade - Works!!

Well, I finally got around to seeing if I could upgrade from 6.2 to 6.3. It worked!! I upgrade nearly 500 packages without problems. However, when I tried to access faxes I wasn't allowed into Hylafax. I checked the Hylafax host file but it was there with the correct permissions??? I finally noticed that there was a new file called hosts.hfaxd that looked surprising like the hosts file but didn't contain any users. I simply copied the hosts file to hosts.faxd and it worked. I downloaded the kernel source for 2.2.13 and re-compiled to create a bootdisk (my poor old 486 that I use for linux can't use lilo and I need Buslogic SCSI and NE support plus a few other things). That worked as well. All in all this was a rather painless exercise. [SLE] help on building a new system...

I am looking at put together a new system and wanted to see if you all had any thoughts. First off what I am going to be doing with the box. I am going to be doing development in SuSE, NT, and Win 98. The first question is processor. Is there a noticable difference in the Celeron chips vis Pentium III on Linux? I here there isn't much of a difference with either NT workstation or 98. What about compatibility between AMD and Linux? Then there is Video cards, what do folks recommend when it comes down to video cards? And gaming is NOT something I am into, I would prefer to save myself some money! If I could, I would like to stick with one of the following: ATI 8MB- AGP Expert 98 ATI 16MB Expert 128 AGP OEM ATI AGP Rage Fury 32MB W/ TV Out ATI AGP Expert 2000 32MB AGP OEM 4MB Trident 9700 3dfx 16MB AGP Voodoo3 3000 3dfx 16MB AGP Voodoo3 3500TV Retail Diamond 32MB AGP Viper V770 TNT2 Diamond 32MB AGP V770 Ultra Boxed Matrox G400 32MB AGP OEM What about memory, I know that NT could really use 192Megs, but are there any Linux developers that can tell me if there is much of a difference between developing with 128M and 192M? CD-Rom's and DVD's. My understanding is that presently there is no support for DVD's in Linux yet, but will it still work as a normal CD Rom drive? Modems are not a consern, I am going to a 3COM NIC to connect to my network. And I am going to use a SoundBlaster. Is there anything else I have not talked about other then keyboard and mouse? Hi Aldo Solari, You are not alone with this problem. Recently I installed SuSE 6.1 on a AMD-K6-III machine with 128MB of RAM and the system detects only 64MB. Maybe this is a problem with the CPU or CPU-Motherboard combination. I'll be trying to insert the mem=128M line in /etc/lilo.conf again. [SLE] creating quota's for mail users

Hello all.. I am looking for a way to put a size limit on my users mailboxes. Started class 4 wks late and never "got it". Starting from scratch today: I would do scheme from "Little Schemer" to learn fundamentals of programming and style. Dive quickly into Python with "Learning Python" and "The Quick Python Book" Python is enough for me to do most anything I'd ever want to.
