[SLE] Connecting Question

Hi all, I've never done this so please bear with me. I've got two computers up and running now. Both are 486s, both have SuSE 5.2 on them. I've got one network card in each with a twisted pair cable connecting them. I don't know what type of card is in each, but I think they both work. So my questions are: #1 How do I tell what card each has and /or do I need to know? #2 What do I do on each machine to get to the other? (Please keep it simple. <G>) #3 Anything else you'al can tell me would be helpful! Thanks and Merry Christmas! [SLE] No sound with CD-Players

I was able to get sound to work with the isapnp and adding the module. I get all the KDE sounds and ESD works at the prompt. Hoever, I am not able to use any CD-plyaers like Workman or the KDE multimedia stuff. I even tryed to remove the KDE Multi-Media Kit, but Yast never removes it. I mean after removal and going through SuSE config I can go back into Yast and the Kit is installed as before? Any ideas why sound seems fine but no CD Players work? [SLE] telnet, ftp with dial-up connection

Hi, Before I get my hands dirtier, I would like to confirm if it's possible to telnet (and ftp) my home computer, which does not have a permanent internet connection, only a simple dial-up connection. Is there simple guidelines for me to follow? Maybe a website? I tried SuSE database, but no luck. HOWTO's as well... 3 Linux books, including "Running Linux." [SLE] INN 2.2.1 Y2K problem

I note from news.software.nntp that there was an announcement that INN 2.2.1 has a Y2K problem when used with NEWNEWS command ( I think ). Will SuSE be providing an updated RPM for INN 2.2.2 on their site.
