Hello Guido, here are further steps that I needed to do, after you have looked after my other instructions. I am now faxing with SuSEFax/HylaFAx using a LinkSys 10/100 +56k combo PCMCIA card, with the modem class set to Class 1 from my Winbook XL laptop with SuSE 6.2 (Linux) installed. Thought I would post the changes here in case anyone else using SuSE experience similar problems. After SuSE 6.2 install, I had to make three changes: 1) Change ModemClass: "any" to ModemClass: "any:.*" in the file /var/spool/fax/etc/config The SuSE manual on page 183 incorrectly told me to input "any" 2) Add fx:2345:respawn:/usr/lib/fax/faxgetty /dev/ttyS1 In /etc/inittab, After changing the inittab, it was necessary to get Linux to see the change. Went to my root directory with the command cd / then typed telinit q to get Linus to reread the /etc/inittab file Your system may use the command telinit -q or init q Rebooting will work to. Note: that I did not set my device to /dev/modem but to /dev/ttyS1 to avoid lock file problems. Also, after adding this fx... line in inittab, my ppp connection to the internet would not work using /dev/modem once I got faxgetty running with the above command. I use kppp, and simply set my modem to /dev/ttyS1 since my modem is hooked up to Serial Port 1 which is COM 2 by the way. If you don't use SuSE, than make sure that the path to faxgetty is correct. It may reside in another directory for you. Note: In case your a Newbie like me, mingetty is not a faxprogram. Thus the need for the faxgetty command line. I sat there and stared at the mingetty commands wondering why they were not working, sending my faxes. 3) Uncomment the ModemDialCmd line in my /var/spool/fax/etc/config.ttyS1 file and change ATDT%s@ to ATDP%s@ since rotary/analog dialing is necessary in Moscow, Russia. ModemDialCmd: ATDP%s@ # T for tone dialing, @ for silence Note: your file may be config.modem or config.ttyS2 etc depending on which device you have your modem set to. If you still can't fax, continue reading the help documents, and cry for help on the HylaFax thread found at www.hylafax.org like I did. I don't know why SuSE did not do this stuff for me automatically. Or for that matter put the faxgetty command in for me automatically. Oh well. [SLE] NIS/YP Problem

Hi all, I'am running a SuSE Linux sever, with a YP/NIS server. I try to connect the client PC's to this server. I have red all documentation/HOWTO and the SUSE book to install the NIS/YP server. But when a client try to connect to the server it says: YPBINDPROC_DOMAIN: Domain not bound I have a correct /etc/yp.conf etc. I have checked all programs like ypbind, upserv etc. status say OK. I'am really at the end now, I do not know wehere to look for the problem. Can somebody give me a suggestion, and I would like to know how I get more detailed output information in /var/log/messages. I have to set the ypserver or ypbind to debug level, but how is this done. Hope somebody can help me Rgd. [SLE] ssh issues.

I have SuSE 6.3. The handbook suggests that ssh is part of the distribution (page 384, english version). In particular, it is in series "n". I can't, however, find it there! Anyway, I went to www.ssh.fi and got the latest version 2.0.13, compiled and installed it. Ssh logins work fine, but I can't get X11 forwarding when I'm logged in via modem. At the office, forwarding works fine between workstations (same subdomain). Here are the things I have done: 1... ./configure --x-includes=/usr/X11R6/include --x-libraries=/usr/X11R6/lib --with-x --enable-X11-forwarding 2... Set ForwardX11 yes in both ssh2_config and sshd2_config files. When I log into the remote site and check $DISPLAY, I get <hostname>:0.0 which is contrary to documentation. It should be <hostname>:n.0 where n>=1. Questions: Has anyone compiled ssh 2.0.13 for SuSE 6.3? What am I doing wrong here? Where is ssh in series n for SuSE 6.3 in the first place? [SLE] Quake and RealPlayer Help Needed indeed.

Hello list, I know it's not real important to make those things work ( i even don't use them ). But my wife :) , she wants to play this game ( don't ask me why ) and listen real player. So i know that some people on the list running the same hardware configuration as me : HW Athlon 600 128MB SoundBlaster Live !( i beleave proble with realplayer somehow related top driver ) Matrox G400 32 Mb ( Problem with Quake defently here )! SW SuSE 6.2 Driver for sound card from SuSE web site ( used to be from CD ) 1) I took demo version of Quake III Arena form ID software site. Install it . Then i run it i have just black screen and mouse pointer. 2) Real player then tries to load something played about half a second sound and then exits with no messages. Please Help. I'm using computer for different things and therefore absolutely clueless about things like games sounds ..etc.. Another approach is to get on the first line of the region, and do command: `M-x query-replace-regexp RET ^ RET # RET', replying `SPC' on each line you want commented. Easier is to just select the region to comment (putting mark and point around it as usual), narrow to it with `C-x n n', execute the above `M-x ...', and reply a single `!' to do it all in one blow. You finally remove the narrowing restriction with `C-x n w'. XEmacs might vary slightly. Use `M-x query-replace-regexp RET ^# RET RET' for the converse operation. Short of doing those things, and to reply to your question more precisely, you might just bracket the whole region you want to skip like this: if false; then ... [SLE] GTK Version Conflict

KMail says I sent this, but I don't remember seeing it show up on the list. If you've seen this, my apologies: All, The new version of Balsa was just released, and I've been fiddling around trying to compile and install it, but I've come upon an aggravating situation. When I run configure, I get the following error: checking for gtk-config... /usr/local/bin/gtk-config checking for GTK - version >= 1.2.0... *** 'gtk-config --version' returned 1.2.6, but GTK+ (1.2.3) *** was found! If gtk-config was correct, then it is best *** to remove the old version of GTK+. You may also be able to fix the error *** by modifying your LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable, or by editing *** /etc/ld.so.conf. Make sure you have run ldconfig if that is *** required on your system. *** If gtk-config was wrong, set the environment variable GTK_CONFIG *** to point to the correct copy of gtk-config, and remove the file config.cache *** before re-running configure I do have the 1.2.6 rpm installed - upgraded from the 1.2.3 rpm that came on the Suse 6.2 CDs. I've checked all the stuff suggested and it seems to be in order. So, my question is, how do I make sure that all vestiges of 1.2.3 are gone? Apparently something is still hanging around, and it's important. Thanks for any pointers. Hi, am in Sydney for vacation and trying to get my friend online via Linux. I can't get a response from DHCP server from BigPond. I read old posts and others seemed to have same problem in the past. I tried SuSE's(6.2) dhclient and then dhcpcd(1.3.17) but I can't get a response with either of them. Any advice is appreciated. One possible solution is to exit the shell with `exit' or by pressing Ctrl-d.
