In another list, there are references to putting things in the rc.local file. I don't seem to have one. Am I missing something here? Should i make one? [SLE] ftp after crash

Hi everyone. After a power failure now I can't ftp up to my site any more. We use gftp. It just says 'connection refused' all other e-mail and browsers work fine. Any ideas anyone? [SLE] Cyrillic Kmail

Hello, I have SuSE 6.2 anybody out there have experience getting kmail to write in cyrillic? I have fixed font and courier font working, but they are hard to read. I don't get this. I have Star Office 5.1 working Cyrillic now, have ghostscript in cyrillic, even setup a user named russian, so that I can work in the KDE environment in cyrillic. All is fine, but kmail is not. [SLE] Root paration is full, find big files?

I have a root paration and it is %100 full, but I can't find which file is hogging all the space, I rotated all my log files and deleted all the 'ussual suspects' but the / device is still full. All home directory (users files), the /tmp, /opt, /var/mail and /usr are all on differant disk drives. I have tried using find and du, but can not find the file eating up my / paration. The bad thing is, that there is NO logging on the system now since it does have any room to write log files : / Is there a way to list all the biggest files in order just on the / drive and not cross disk bounders. Print the biggest files first and then so on... Dear all, I am a new listmember and a relatively new user of SuSE and of Linux. I am still using the 6.1 version -- will upgrade to 6.3 ASAP. The system as a whole works very well but I still have some problems. An important one is faxing. I installed the SuSE fax program exactly as suggested in the user manual but I cannot send faxes. After selecting recipient and document to send nothing happens. If I click on Get Status I receive the following error message: SuSEFax.getStatus:java.net.ConnectException Connection refused Additional details: -- my fax-modem is external (USRobotics SportsterMessagePlus) and works very well as modem under Linux. -- under Win98 I can send/receive faxes with no problems -- the menu shown in the manual (SuSE 6.1, par. 7.7, picture number 7.10) is not completely displayed when I try to send a fax. The "Sende fax" and "Abbruch" ("send fax" -- "exit") icons are not displayed, even if I try to enlarge or move the window. -- I tried also as root but nothing changes, and both the English and German versions are giving the same problems. I will be very grateful to those who will kindly post a suggestion. [SLE] Backup to HD

What is the best way to do a full backup to another hard drive? I would prefer that the backup be one file that can be updated with changed/new files. It seems that dump is primarily for tape drives. If you use tar/gtar can you update this file and also can you specify that it starts at "/" and tar's all directory and files? Time to consider upgrading from 6.1 again, but before I do can someone please answer a simple question. Does wvdial work with dial on demand from the box now? [SLE] Network security hole?

During last weekend I encountered some extremely strange email-related behavior, and I'm wondering if it could be caused by some kind of network security hole. It seems that when I sent email to addresses at aol.com via my ISP, it simply dropped into a black hole. I got no rejection message of any kind; the only way I even knew there was a problem was that people at AOL told me they hadn't received mail that I verified I had sent to them. I was able to narrow the problem slightly by sending mail to fictitious AOL addresses like zzxqdec26a(a)aol.com, which would normally produce a ``no such user'' return message. I didn't get such a message. The truly strange thing is that I could send mail to all my normal destinations other than AOL and it was received properly. Furthermore, I could send mail to AOL addresses from my Yahoo and Netscape accounts and it was received properly. It was as though there was a black hole somewhere on the path between my ISP and AOL that swallowed the email but didn't affect other paths. Whatever the problem, I did not encounter it today so I can no longer experiment with it. Does anyone here have ideas as to what the problem might have been? This behavior is not just unlike any I've ever seen before; it's unlike any I've even heard of before. [SLE] Netscape brings up my link

Hello all, I use netscape with a proxy at home and diald etc. It irritates me that netscape always wants to acces 3 url's when you start it. This brings up the link for no reason at all and netscape waits for it to happen. When you disallow access Netscape just sits and waits. Any idea's Can this be disabled?
