[SLE] Serial + ps2 mouse with X?

When at home I like to use an external keyboard and serial mouse connected to a laptop. Anyone on this list who has configured X to use two mice simultaneously? I have done this with gpm, but the X howto's don't seem to mention this sort of thing. [SLE] WVDIAL timeouts

Hello. This is Gary in Spanaway, WA. I am trying to set up a full time internet to amateur radio TCPIP gateway using Suse Linux v6.2. I am using WVDIAL on a full-time PPP dialup link with my local ISP, with a fixed IP address. Although WVDIAL configured easily, thus taking all of the headaches out of getting PPP running, I am plagued by a chronic timeout problem. After the link is established and I am logged onto my ISP, everything works well for 20-30 minutes. Then I get an error message saying that "PPP has died" and I try to redial and re-establish the link... That happens for awhile, until I get a message from WVDIAL saying that the modem is not responding.... I would like to think that the timeout is not a matter of the ISP dumping me, as I can stay connected for days or weeks with my Winders-98 or Winders-2000 Beta-RC2 machines, without a problem.... Somehow I think there is a need to play with the configuration of WVDIAL somehow, but so far I cannot seem to find out what that entails. Can someone give some advice? I would hope that it would be a simple matter of setting a timer or some other flag.... Oh yes, btw, I am using a US Robotics 56K Sportster modem (external), and get very good connects to my ISP in v.90 mode (48K to 53,333K). I just wish I could stay connected for extended periods of time without having to redial or the modem die on me... Now to really confuse things... I have tried a second 56K modem of different manufacture, and it does exactly the same things as described above.... Your suggestions and comments would be appreciated. Thanks.... Greetings, I am attempting to make use of the login.access(5) file. However, login(1) seems to skip the part about parsing through this configuration text. I also find that SuSE maps this file, which is described from the man page as being '/etc/login.access', as '/etc/security/access.conf'. Must I recompile something? Both of these files are ignored. Please, give me a clue. [SLE] Not able to login

HI guys Since i was falling short of diskspace i deleted some seemingly harmless packages. After that i am unable to login into my machine . However I am able to login into a SINGLE user mode but dont know what to do once in that mode . Even yast exists out with a error message . Also when i try to login into the machine in its default runlevel i am never prompted for the password after entering the login name ..Infact the login prompt again comes back I was able to see one error message at some point which complained of not able to create some temporary file.. My .profile is fairly simple and doesnt need any temp files to be created Can anybody PLEASE advise what to do .. [SLE] Masquerading

I have setup my server to masquerade, using the instructions given in the latest HOWTO. The problem is on the internal network, I can ping the outside world, telnet from the Linux server. Also ping works ok from the server to the PC. I have set the PC's gateway to the address of the linux box, TCP protocol is installed. It seems that the pc cannot ping the Linux server. Ok so i installed xauth on the remote host. Problem is now i get this message using ssh login # <x-app> Xlib: connection to "192.168.0.3:0.0" refused by server Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server error: Cant open display: 192.168.0.3:0 also now i cant open a remote x-app with a rsh login which i could before i installed xauth ! #<x-app> Error: Cant open display: Any ideas what could could be the solution here ? i still dont make much sense of the xauth man pages :-/ >Roy Culley wrote: > > The first thing to check is that the xauth program is installed on > the remote host and that sshd can find it. [SLE] Symbolic link for /var/X11R6/bin/X

I just read through Eric Raymond's XFree86-HowTo as installed with SuSE 6.2. There's a paragraph that says: "On older versions of XFree86, XF86Setup links the `X' command directly to the chosen server. In recent versions, `X' is instead linked to a set-user-id wrapper program called Xwrapper. The idea is that all the setuid root stuff gets localized in Xwrapper so the server doesn't have to run setuid root." However in my installation X is linked directly to the X-server (XF86_Mach64), not Xwrapper. Xwrapper is present, but when I change the symbolic link to reference it, the server doesn't come up. Although the security issue isn't a big concern with the laptop where I tried this, I am also running SuSE installations on networked servers where this would be more of a concern. [SLE] Matrox G400 problem

Hello all, i just recived new system ( AMD Athlon ) and tryin put suse 6.2 there. Seems everything fine exept video. I have card Marox G400 (32M). SAX, seems to me recondnize it not correctly ( 8M) and i'm able run only 640x480 with 256 colors. Is anybody knows how to set it up correctly ? Thanks. P.S. SuSE 6.2 from box. . Kernel 2.2.10 from suse athlon boot disk .
