[SuSE Linux] encryption

The next step to getting this Linux system the way I want it is to look at encryption. In the Windows world I use software called the Safe House Utilities. This consists of a large (several gb) file which mounts with password as a drive letter, after which it acts as a directory tree transparently. There are several utilities to mount, unmount, change passwords, defrag, etc. It reminds me of Stacker without the compression. What an outpouring of private email!! :) Thanks all. I found a couple of sources that sell windows 3.1 and a bunch of people who seem to still have diskettes of this popular yesteryear operating system. I won't announce the winner because then all the rest of you would be clamoring to know why I picked that person or store.:) Again, thanks everyone. This is good and it provides an opportunity and incentive for SuSE managment to review their strategy and marketing campaign in NA. Lets just say it constitutes a good break. IMHO SuSE strategy in NA is seriousely flawed, no major partnerships have been annouced since the partnering with Applix. This was a good move as Corels products are not ready and StarOffice is simply not up to the task...yet. 6.0 will ship with Star. Other than that no major partenerships or side deals. All major announcements that have moved Linux forwared into the commercial arena came from Redhat. While this is great news for Linux and nubies (early adopters) it certainly does little to level the playing field for linux distro vendors or consumers. Our shop runs on RH, we have too, to survive. I personally run SuSE at home for all the right reasons, but try and convince anyone else of its merrits, especially non-users. Corp views are clear Linux = RedHat At best the article hopefully will wake up SuSE managment of the portential in NA. IMHO nothing would hurt linux and its penetration of the corporat world more, 'in the long run', than an identification of Linux with one brand name, even if that name was SuSE. We need players, choice and some diversification. A strong represtation by a number two player is urgently needed. Right now its a toss up between Caldera and SuSE who each have less than 100f the total US install base where as the rest is split quite unevenly by RH and Debian. As Debian will not likely ever go commercial that leaves SuSE or Cladera with quite a lot of work ahead of them just to catch up. This is where we come in. SuSE will only invest some seriouse money into advertizing and partnerships if we the user base keep pointing it out to them and encourage them. Linux is about consumer choice as open source trasnfers the ownership, responsibility and managment of the OS from the manufacturer to the developers and end users. Cant look under the hood with other systems. I think if we just keep at it we cold possibly see some greater levels of commitment to NA. While they are doing well in Europe things are not that cozy on this side of the pond. PLease be informed that this is not an anti-RH rant, quite the contrary. [SuSE Linux] Configuring my printer under Linux......

Greetings...... First of all, I have a Epson Stylus Pro. In the beginning I thought that it was a WINGUI printer, but extensive search at the epson ftp site revealed that it is a full fledged printer (whew). Now, even though it is not directly supported through SuSE the Stylus Pro does support either the Epson LQ-2550 or the LQ-860 (both are color dot matrix printers using Epson ESCP2 language) I am sure that those printers are supported under SuSE. However, a cat /proc/devices shows me that I have no lp devices. What gives......I thought that the LPT ports are set up during installation process. Can anyone please help me on how to set up my system so that the LPT port works? [SuSE Linux] Cd writer software. How to write Joliet format?

Hi all, Does anyone know how to write CDs in Joliet format? I am using cdrecord and the docs say to use mkhybrid but it doesn't come with it. Another question, does anyone know of a good GUI cd recording software? Either for Xwindows or KDE would be great. [SuSE Linux] Netware 5 does Linux

Thought you guy and gals might find this interesting. We're upgrading out Novell boxes to Novell 5 which has this new server GUI. Interestingly, it runs Xfree86 and FVWM2 (Hacked from hell though). It uses .XPM as backgrounds and .tar files as archives. [SuSE Linux] Is Kscd mad?

Hello, I am wondering if Kscd (the KDE CD Player) is mad... When I log in as user is like if Kscd would be as an autostart program as two Kscd are opened and when I log in as root then I have three Kscd opened. What's the problem here? I didn't have these problems at the beguinning only after I have installed OSS. Thanks in advance. [SuSE Linux] virtual hosting

Hi, I've tried to setup virtual hosting for sendmail & apache under suse 5.3. I don't have luck in that according to mini howto on virtual hosting. 1. don't know where to put the line ifconfig eth0:0 <virtual ip address> since this only works if eth0 is created 2. sendmail cannot recognise virtual domain name and all mails passed through will have actual domain name 3. same home page is accessed when calling from browser for 2 domain names Please help !! ...it is RPM that becomes the default or "standard". Then distributions will be unfettered by such concerns. That seems to be the distinction no one makes because Microsoft held the computer world by BOTH balls, operating system and chief Application: Office Suite. If the kernel is stabalized, and the tree standardized, then only the intsallation of packages need be agreed on. In the Linux world things can work differently if folks are jerked out of their Microsoft brings both the ball and bat to the game mindset. S.u.S.E. recognizes and agrees with RPM, and RPM is the feather in the Red Hat. Am I wrong?
