[SuSE Linux] vmlinux too big...?

Hi, After running # make menuconfig I use the following commands: # make dep clean zImage I then run # make zlilo Unfortunately the output tells me that vmlinux is too big. This is the error: # kernel /usr/src/linux-2.0.34.SuSE/vmlinux is too big # make[1]: ***[zlilo] Error 1 # make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.0.34.SuSE/arch/i386/boot' # make: ***[zlilo] Error 2 Any idea how to solve the problem ? [SuSE Linux] .tar.gz files

Hi all; I'm using 5.2 with YaST .89.something. Anyway I tryed to install a program today that was XXX.tar.gz. In yast it did not show this file or any like it. There were only RPM files and .tgz files. Did I do something wrong or is this a bug? In this way I can be sure that I respect the standard HTML. Nevertheless there are some nice and useful "new tags" introduced by Netscape and/or Microsoft. Keep in mind that their browser are a bit further than the standard html. AsWedit is quite good wysiwyg html editor, and let you play with forms which is not possible under Netscape Composer (at least in the version I have 4.05). There is an rpm at the RedHat site which works on SuSE5.3 You can write your page with it . AsWedit uses Netscape to show the preview (but you can choose among other unix browser), so that is a good habit to test your page with IE, too. I have looked over a few bills and it looks like it is costing me nearly the $35 it will cost to have up to 400K speed. So, for me, it is an excellent alternative. For others, YMMV. [SuSE Linux] Color depth with user log

I have a problem. I use SuSE 5.2 and I have configured very well Xfree when I access in root mode. I have configure in /root file .xserverrc for 16 bpp (I have seen dataBase help..). Well, when I have created a new user and start (with startx) Xfree (KDE for precision) it start with 8 bpp and I don't be able to start with 16 bpp (yes, with startx -- -bpp 16 I can). I have tried to copy .xserverrc from /root to /home/.... but it, when I start Xfree, give me this message: "_XSERVTranSocketUNIXCreateListener: SocketCreateListener () failed _XSERVTrans,akeAIICOTServerListener: server already running fatal server errot: Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already running _X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 111 giving up xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error " I have try to change attributes to copy in /home/.. of .xserverrc, I have try to rename the copy in /root and have only in /home/.., but no solutions are an happy end. I really hate those tolls on the Garden State Parkway, but why is that a linux issue ;) Acutally, I have been a member of a good many letter writing commitees and this is our formula: a) get everybody together (in different locations at the same time) b) write ~paper~ letters c) fax the paper letters d) send the paper letters e) send letters demanding a response f) argue with the response g) chain yourself to their front gate h) demand your day in court, as they try to throw you ~out~ of jail i) present your case until the judge pulls his last 3 hairs out j) demand to go back to jail and organize the prisoners into a procedural legal machine k) harass the private detectives if anybody hires any l) repeat steps h,i,j m) get down and dirty, and take it personally... I'm also a newbie (be warned!) but am about to do what you are tallking about.... Use YaST to install IP Masquerading (and also perhaps the Firewall?) Then just follow the instructions in the SuSe book (which don't make too much sense UNTILL you install the software... then all becomes clearer.) You have to put the setup details into one of the config files (the book tells you which) and... well thats as far as I have got, but it looks pretty straighforward - I'll do the actual deed when I get back to work next week. [SuSE Linux] OSS Driver

I have the OSS driver (which BTW is pretty expensive when converted into the poor old SA Rand!) When I start it with "soundon" from the command line, I get no error messages. But I have put the command into boot.local (is that the right place?) and although it does seem to start the driver okay, I see an error message - something about modprobe not finding char-major-14 ? Is this because I'm trying to start the driver from the wrong place? Or am I missing a file or something? Thanks!
