Hi I have a problem with my X Server when I boot into Linux. I set it up on a multi-sync screen due to my Linux box's screen being in for repairs and now with the old screen I cannot get into XF86Setup to change the settings. Could someone please tell me what changes to make in the X Servers configuration file so that my X Windows will work on the screen. It has a maximum resolution of 800x600 @ 56Hz. Also where could I get a Server for a SIS 6202 PCI Video Adapter. Any viable solution would be great. Hi all, I'm a relative newbie with Linux. Uptill now i managed to get my ISDN card and 3Com card working. So that's ok. I also can dial my IPS from my Linux PC. I have a small home network, including my Linux PC and a Win95 PC of my kids. I can mount the Win95 PC with smbmount etc. Now I want to give my kids access to the internet trough my Linux PC. Is this possible? And if it is possible how is it done. Is it called Gateway? Is it done trough Samba or Apache, or not at all by these two servers. What are the settings on the Win95 PC? Where can I find documentation man pages or Howto's on this subject? Any info will be helpful, as I already searched for man pages, and on the Samba and Apache Internet sites, but could not find anything like this. Thanks for any help or suggestions. [SuSE Linux] Missing super block !!!!!

Hello all, First I wanted to thank everyone on this list who helps the newbies like me. (and for not being *too* brutal when we say the occasional uninformed thing, etc.) Now that I have buttered you up, I have a BIG PROBLEM. My system WAS working beautifully. But, in my attempts to install LILO, something has gone very wrong. Everything seemed to go flawlessly, LILO started, but then I got that "Unable to open initial console" error. So I tried out the fixes mentioned in the support database after someone pointed them out to me---they didn't work. I did get it down to a problem with recognizing the boot device (/dev/hda1). So I booted on to a Windoze boot floppy, figuring I would just do a "fdisk /MBR" to return to the original state. But, MY C DRIVE DISAPPEARED!!! I ran FDISK and it just says that the filesystem type for the first partition (C drive) is "unknown". Then from Linux, I ran Yast, which under partition info says the filesystem type for /dev/hda1 is "MS-Dos blah blah" (just like my D-drive which is fine), but when I choose a mount point (/dosc) and exit yast, it tells me that it can't mount /dev/hda1. It just says: RomperRoom:/home/chris # mount /dosc mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda1, or too many mounted file systems So then I type: RomperRoom:/home/chris # dumpe2fs /dev/hda1 dumpe2fs 1.10, 24-Apr-97 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09 dumpe2fs: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while trying to open /dosc Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock. So, it's seemingly hosed. What happened? [SuSE Linux] Memory not completely initialised.

Hi, I've got a strange problem on two of my machines. Upgraded one Compaq Prosignia 300 from 16 Mb to 80 Mb by adding 2 x 32 Mb. Did run through the Compaq setup and it shows me 80 Mb. Allthough, running SuSE 5.3 linux, only the first 16 Mb is shown. I did recompile the kernal, but still it sticks at 16 Mb. My second machine is an dual Pentium 133, which holds 96 Mb, will only see 64 Mb as max under SuSE 5.3. On both machines I do see the following message at startup: Loaded 4245 symbols from /System.map. Symbols match kernel version. klogd 1.3-0, log source = /proc/kmsg started. <4>Memory: sized by int13 088h <4>Console: 16 point font, 400 scans <4>Console: colour VGA+ 80x25, 1 virtual console (max 63) <4>pcibios_init : BIOS32 Service Directory structure at 0x000ffee0 <4>pcibios_init : BIOS32 Service Directory entry at 0xf0000 <4>pcibios_init : PCI BIOS revision 2.10 entry at 0xf005e <4>Probing PCI hardware. <4>Calibrating delay loop.. ok - 60.01 BogoMIPS <4>Memory: 14696k/16384k available (768k kernel code, 384k reserved, 536k data) What you can see is two things, first the Memory sixed by Int13 088h, which gets the memory size from the bios. and second the Memory: 14696k/16384k available, so no 80 Mb. Can you manualy set this somewhere or do I have to think of more serious work???
