Hi, Olaf,
1) Patches in BETA/sleep are against stock 2.4.6 or benh tree?
2) Which one proved to be more stable and less problematic: k_pmac or
k_benh? Is sleep, firewire and ati video mirroring support the only
advantage of benh kernel?
Thanks.

Dear All
after upgrading to XFREE 4.1 I cannot see other fonts than Helvetica family.
May you give me some hints to come back to the normality (having all
fonts available) ?
Thanks for help

Hi,
It looks like there is some kind of dynamic linking problem (glibc
related ?) with mod_perl and apache on SuSE PPC 7.1.
Syntax error on line 202 of /etc/httpd/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /usr/lib/apache/libperl.so into server: R_PPC_REL14
relocation at 0x30391a9c out of range
I have reintsalled apache, apache modules, including mod_perl (but not
perl package itself), run SuSEconfig, but nothing helped.
Also, I have tried to turn off mod_php4 and mod_ssl. It seems mod_perl
problem is not related to other apache modules. Other modules installed
are contrib and status, anothers like dav have been turned in rc via YaST
since they are not installed.
Any idea how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Have you selected HFS boot partition (with fake System Folder) as startup
disk? Does your os-chooser have type tbxi and creator chrp? If yes,
please verify partition numbers specified in os-chooser. Also, try to
remove os-chooser and set yaboot type tbxi and creator chrp in order to
load yaboot without help of os-chooser.

Hold down the command+alt+o+f keys on startup, this will drop you into
OpenFirmware.
then
boot ultra0:your_HFS_boot_partition_number,\suseboot\yaboot

It should be HFS!
>Although I selected 2.4 kernel as the one to use in YAST.
Look in the /boot directory, then copy kernel image(s) into suseboot
folder, and update your yaboot.conf accordingly. If you have selected 2.4
kernel in YaST it means that YaST will install 2.4 kernel, but it does
not mean that YaST will update your yaboot.conf!
Also, it may happen that Linux start, but cannot initialize video card
properly. Ask someone who has the same iMac which kernel arguments may be
required.
PS. If you register your SuSE Linux, you will be eligible for free 60
days installation support. Why miss it?

Hi,
Please describe exactly your steps, what you have done and at what stage
failure occur. Did you tried to boot Linux from HFS boot partition, not
from CD? Try to install latest 2.4 kernel, then copy kernel image to HFS
boot and add or change this in yaboot.conf
default = vmlinux-2.4
image = vmlinux-2.4
label = vmlinux-2.4
root = /dev/hda10
append = ""
Change "vmlinux-2.4" to your actual kernel image name.
PS. Please make sure you have learned nature of Linux booting on
new-world Mac. If you do not know this you will not be able to do
anything but blind tinkering. Refer to my web site (Linux Tips & Tricks)
for more info.

You could simply edit the /etc/fstab file and add something like the following:
/dev/sdc /zip hfs noauto,user 0 0
This makes my SCSI ZIP accessible (3rd device on chain). I mount it with:
mount /zip

Do you have
CONFIG_HFS_FS=y
in your kernel configuration?
If not, do so or compile the driver as a module.
