Hi, Olaf

Did not tried. What this test supposed to reveal? If I type in OF boot
hdx it seems OF starts to looking for elf. So its seems OF iteslf is not
broken.
I can put vmilinux and System.map on HFS boot and re-type yaboot.conf.
os-chooser is OK because HFS boot is a startup partition and without
space key down MacOS starts OK.
My yaboot entry looked this way:
# 2.4.2-SuSE-RaiserFS
image = ultra0:10,/boot/vmlinux-2.4.2
label = linux-2.4.2
root = /dev/hda10
May be I should add sysmap = ultra0:10,/boot/System.map-2.4.2 ?
>What yaboot version do you use? Does the version on CD1 work any better?
>You dont really need 1.2.1.reiser.
1.2.1 resierfs. I have kernel on ReiserFS /boot, so I am not sure
non-resierfs yabot can do something.
PS. I have reset OF with reset-all, but the problem still exists. I just
could not figure out where it comes from.

Hi,
I have encountered nasty problem with new-world PPC booting after using
beta k_defit-2.4.6-5.rpm kernel (however, I am not sure beta 2.4.7pre3
was a culprit).
I have Indigo iBook with ReiserFS root partition and SuSe 7.1, which
worked for several months. After installing and using for about 2 hours
latest SuSE 2.4.7pre3 kernel (k_defit-2.4.6-5.rpm) PPC boot seem to be
completely screwed, I am always being throuwn in Open Firmware with
default catch 300. However, the Linux itself is OK because I may boot
from CD, and then boot installed Linux. Right now booting from HD is not
possible with any kernel.
I have checked HFS boot partition for corruption, zapped PRAM, replaced
yabot, virtually nothing helps.
Any idea what it could be?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi!
I´m trying to set up a dial-on-demand gateway to be used as a dial-up server
for my internal machines. Suse 7.1 PPC has this kind of functionality
built-in and I´ve tried to just fill in my settings, but I can´t get it to
work.
What happens is that I get some errors during the boot which says this:
/etc/init.d/rc3.d/S09wvdial.dod: line 8: 238 Segmentation fault
/usr/bin/wvdial --dump-conf $SECTION $WVPARAMS >$TMPFILE
/etc/init.d/rc3.d/S09wvdial.dod: [: =: unary operator expected
/etc/init.d/rc3.d/S09wvdial.dod[232]: starting pppd
192.168.99.1:192.168.99.99 modem crtscts defaultroute -detach user
ipcp-accept-local ipcp-accept-remote usepeerdns call wvdial demand idle 180
noipdefault connect "/usr/bin/wvdial --chat "... [PID=250]
ls: /var/run/ppp?.pid: No such file or directory
Has anybody had the same problems or anything similar? Maybe this isn´t just
a problem with the PPC Edition but that is what I use.

Hi, Jeff,
Can you please inform me about two things:
1) If your Endian-safe ReiserFS port supports quota (or may be quota
ReiserFS support have no direct relationship to your port?).
2) If yaboot bug (which prevents to use ext2 /boot and ReiserFS /root
under certain circumstances) have been fixed.
Thanks.

just as a word of caution to anyone trying firewire, you may get
very verbose messages that will fill your logs up very quickly.
Beware your system doesn't get too full! I produced over 300mb of
messages in less than ten minutes of audio listening.
fun though.... :)

Hi,

Remove append = "load_ramdisk=1, you do not need it.
>It seems that I can get either os-chooser to be tbxi or yaboot to be

os-chooser should be tbxi. Try to rename it to "MacOS ROM".
>understand them to be:-
>MacOs /dev/hda5
>boot /dev/hdb8
>root /dev/hdb10
>swap /dev/hdb9
Are you sure you have 2 hard drives (judging from partition numbers I
suspect not)? hdb is second ide drive. if not, you should correct your
partition numbers in yaboot.conf and lilo.conf.
>I'm using a blue & white G3 with MacOs 8.6

>with this would be much appreciated .
No, only yaboot.
PS. Look at my web site, Linux tips and tricks, it might help you.

Hi,
I have succesfully build 2.4.7pre3 kerenl for PPC with ReiserFS support.
Thanks, Olaf.
BTW, are there any reasons to switch from 2.4.2 to 2.4.6 kernel (speed,
stability, etc.)?

Hi,
Thanks for your response. I have a supported Matrox video card on the
system.
We have managed to get the kernel start loading, but it fails when its
initialising the driver for the SCSI controller(ncr53c825a) .
The messages got before the kernel stops loading are:
ncr53c825a-0: rev 0x13 on pci bus 0 device 16 function 0 irq 23
ncr53c825a-0: ID 4, Fast-10, Parity Checking
ncr53c825a-0: on-chip RAM at 0x8adff000
Are there any boot options through which we can get around the SCSI
initialization part of kernel booting .
We tried various options like nvram:n , mpar:n, specf:n etc., but these did
not help.
Please suggest.
regards,

First make sure, that the floppy is not damaged. Then have a look if the
graphic is supported as Ferdinand mentioned. Another thing may be the
Open Firmware. Make sure that you have the latest and greatest version
on the machine.

Hello,
I am trying to install SUSE 7.1 for PPC on RS/6000 43P Model 140.
However, I am not able to boot the kernel. The documentation at this URL
"http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/olh_ppc_43p140.html" says that the kernel
binary
CD1/unsorted/prep/zImage.140 should be copied to a DOS formatted floppy
and loaded from the Openfirmware prompt using " boot floppy : ,
zimage".But each time the system hangs after reading the floppy and the
kernel is not getting loaded.
Can anybody tell me how i can get the kernel loaded? Or which kernel
image to use?
regards,
