am I hacked ?

Hi, I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev" and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0 length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have installed a rootkit or some such ? I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange. 7.3 with 43P-150

Hi there, I've just installed Suse 7.3 on a RS6000 43P-150. The installation was working fine, but ... when I reboot the system, I'm getting this error message : Word called in boot-manager package not found. ... Failed to boot. Of course, I could configure the multiboot way, boot on the cd 2 and boot the system, but I should prefer to find the right solution. Thanks for you help :) Tchao Patrick

SuSE V7.3 PPC: IDE hardisk interrupt lost

I installed till with some failures under Linux SuSE V 7.3 PPC editopm on a RISC 6000 7248-100. It is running quite find. Afterwards I inserted an IDE-HDD 80 GB. This disk is correct recognized from 80 GB size. But on system console I always get the message: hda: interrupt lost What can I do for solving this problem. Thanks Harald

Hi ! Sorry for my OT question in this linux list. Yesterday I installed SuSE PPC V7.3 on a IBM RISC- 6000 43P (Model 7248). I had some problems and now I will try to solve them. But I have no access to the BIOS-Options at machine startup. Years ago I know the special key for entering BIOS-Options but I forgot this. I googled all over the world and I couldn't find it. Please can you help me: Which key and at what time to be pressed for entering BIOS-Options. Thanks Harald

p615 Raid Install

Hello All, I am trying to install SLES 8 onto a p615 with RAID-1 between two drives. sda Drive 1 sda1 4 MB PPC PReP Boot sda2 1 GB Linux RAID sda3 32.9 GB Linux RAID sdb Drive 2 sdb1 4 MB PPC PReP Boot sdb2 1 GB Linux RAID sdb3 32.9GB Linux RAID I then created 2 raid devices md0 sda2, sdb2 swap md1 sda3, sdb3 / According to SuSE, you need a small (100MB) /kernel partition, and must put the boot file and the config file in this partion… I have tried that also, and got the following error when I ran lilo: --- snip --- newbb:~/suse # lilo running on chrp install on /dev/sda Installing /boot/yaboot.chrp onto /dev/sda1 519+1 records in 519+1 records out check the image files ERROR: image /boot/vmlinuz is not on bootdevice /dev/sda `/tmp/ppc_lilo/yaboot.conf' -> `/etc/yaboot.conf' --- snip --- Now, my question (finally ☺). 1. problems with network boot

Hi all, I have an powermac 8500 and trying to boot this machine from the network, but when I download one of 2.2 or 2.4 coff kernels from the website and place them in the /tftpboot directorie on a i386 bsd server the mac gives the error CLAIM! failed (from serveral resources on the internet this tells me that the load-base variable is not set right, currently I set this to 600000, I also tried to switch to 640000 but without any luck, the same thing with the real-base variable from F00000 to FB0000) What would be an apporiate value or values to use? And how can I compile a new kernel (2.4.x or 2.5.x) with an coff out? and are the any patches that I HAVE to use, to make it work? Last Question: it seems that vyres (fb) is lower than yres so when the X server start the screen follows my mouse pointer to display an part of the screen, is there a way to set this value right?
