Just (a week ago) completed my first PPC installation "without" problems and
I have dedicated a week browse around the system and figure out what is
different between PPC and x86 (this is my first Mac and I like it)
But were can I get more software? Freshmeat? Is there a single source were I
can find software for SuSE PPC or do I just have to keep on browsing? From
the X86 world I am used to find the software I want, but now ... Very
little.
I am looking for Java developing tools like J builder (yes I like Netbeans,
but another would be nice) and and office package like StarOffice is there
any out there?
If there is very few apps for PPC and there is very little effort to port
more. What can be done to change this situation (yes I know I can do it my
self :-) I am basically trying to find out some more about the PPC community
I know this questions have probably been answered several times, but I am
brand new to PPC

Here comes post #2 for the day. =]
Anyone have suse 7.0 running up-to-spec on a pismo powerbook? I'm having
great trouble with a usb modem. I tried upgrading the kernel to 2.4, etc.
It's a ricochet wireless modem, it uses standard AT modem commands. It will
dial and so fourth, but pppd craps out when wvdial tries to fire it up.
Any help is greatly appreciated,

Hello,
I've just installed the new KDE 2.1.1 with RPMs from the kde.org ftp servers
(including qt 2.3.0). My system is a upgraded SuSe 7.0 PPC. I had KDE 2.1
installed before.
After the upgrade, I had to rename the ~/.kde2 folder and move my settings
files over to the new one, before it would start up.
Now, everything works well. It seems to me that KDE and applications
start up faster, but that may be a subjective impression. Anyway, I'm happy.
But sometimes, the following error message turns up in Konqueror:
There was an error loading the module KHTML.
The dignostics is:
/opt/kde2/lib/libkssl.so.2: R_PPC_REL24 relocation out of range
It appears reproducably when I click on a web bookmark while I'm managing
files. Konqueror refuses to open the web address afterwards, claiming that it
isn't able to deal with the MIME type text/html (which it ought to be).
I can surf the web fine, though, if I start Konqueror from the
toolbar or menu.
Has anybody else seen this? Are there any known issues with libkssl?
Oh yes, by the way: I can turn on Antialiasing in the Control panel, but
nothing happens, even after a restart. I'm using XFree86 4.0.2 with the
RENDER extension, so I'd expect it to work (not that I miss it much, though)
Cheers

Hello,
I've got the following problem: I've got a cable modem (of a provider that
doesn't give me a fix IP). Somebody told me that I can check if my
network-card works by typing: ping 127.0.0.1 -> this seems to work properly.
But I still can't get any connection to the internet.
While starting up he writes several error messages:
linux kernel: eth0 PHY ID: 0x00206047
linux kernel: eth0 WARNING! Unsupported BCM5400 PHY
and while typing: rcdhclient start
linux kernel: eth0 PHY reset timeout
linux kernel: eth0: Can't find PHY
When I try to configure the Network with YaST2 he tells me that he couldn't
get any Dynamical IP.
Has anybody any idea how I could solve this problem? Or where the problem
could be? I've got no idea what PHY is, maybe somebody can give me a hint...
With best regards

Hi,
I have just installed suse linux 7 for ppc on an imac, and all runs fine but the network drops out completly after a while (normally less than 24 hrs). Is this an issue? We need this server as an smtp server, so network unavailability is bad :)
Any ideas?
Dan.
Hi,
I have tried to compile linux-2.4.2.SuSE-5.tgz from Mr.Mantel
(ftp.suse.com/people/mantel/next/) directory on PPC, compilation went OK
but linking produces error: function keyboard_event, undefined
emulate_row. It seems I have turned off or excluded something, but I
could not figure out exactly what.
Thanks for any suggestions.
PS. I am aware of PPC tree on fsmlabs, but 2.4.x kernel built from this
tree never was stable, at least in my case.

Hi,
I have KDE2.1 (from SuSE ftp), running OK on my PPC. However, any attempt
to use hardware information from KDE control center produces link error:
undefined - /opt/kde2/lib/kde2/libkcm_info.so, _floatdidf.
Any idea what I am missing?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I've got the following problem: I just installed Linux on my PowerMacintosh
G4 (2x450). It acutally (after some hours of setting it up...) works fine,
but I can't do yet a network connection to my cable modem, because of the
fact that I don't know, what card I have to specify in the menue, where I
can choose the type of my network-card:
It gives me a list of many cards (3Com 3c501, AMD Lance...etc), but I don't
know which one is the correct one.
Does any body know which network-card is installed on the G4?
With best regards
