Hi,
I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to
go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that
there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev"
and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0
length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this
could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have
installed a rootkit or some such ?
I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange.
Cheers
Damir

Hi there,
I'm sorry for sending you this query maybe you can help since I cant find
any info elsewhere,
Ive installed suse 10.0 on a b50 all is well there. The problem I have is
that I've set up another b50
With fedora 5 but I have a garbled screen problem. I was wondering if I can
copy xorg.conf from suse and apply it to fedora.
Once again sorry ..
I just aquired a Powermac G3 Beige system. Here are the specs:
G3 @ 266Mhz 512k L2 cache
Machine ID - 510(Rev 1 - $77D.4 - 0F2)
Personality slot with 56k modem
Dual IDE/3 PCI/SCSI
6GB IDE HD(IDE 1)
52x CD-RW(IDE 0)
100MB Zip (SCSI)
ATI Rage II+ DVD - 2MB VRAM(on board)
I put 384MB of 66Mhz SDRAM in it. No matter what I do, I cannot get
the Yast installer to come up. I;ve tried with a lot of different
memory configs and still no luck. When it starts up, it says to
"Please supply config file", and then I get a blank screen. I can jump
between screens(the num lock light goes off and on), but the are all
blank. I even tried an ATI Rage II PCI card and same thing.....Any
sggestions. I THINK it has Mac OS X on it because the OS 9 version is
9.2.2, but I don't really know anything about X, and just want to run
Linux.....Thanx

Hello,
As far as I can see, it would be a major speed jump for G4 and newer
computers, if we could use these optimalisations from
http://freevec.org/ . Glibc and some db libs are compiled seperately for
i686 on the PC as well.
Alpha1 comes tomorrow, so it's probably too late for that one, but would
be a nice addition for Alpha2. Should I file an enhancment request in
bugzilla? Bye,
Peter
Hello,
A small collection of multimedia related packages are available at
ftp://spike.fa.gau.hu/pub/pmppc/
It's compiled from packman source rpm-s. Original announcment was on the
openSUSE list: http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/opensuse/2005-Sep/1665.html
It has all the packages, which don't have extensive dependencies, as the
PPC CD release (as all the other) are missing most of the '-devel'
packages, and a third of all packages... I will update it, as soon as
the rest of the packages is on-line (6th October).
Bye,
Peter

I Have a spare 7500, and the RJ45 jack and the other jack that I thought was firewire is evidently a network device since they have the same logo. I think that the RJ45 uses the MACE driver and I guess the AAUI woud use a different driver. It didn't automatically detect the eth cards. I'm kinda newbie when it comes to Macs. Anyway, problem solved. I had moved my PCI cards around to make the case close and found out that my Via USB card will not work properly when it is installed in the PCI slot beside the processor. Here is the lspci -v output for the Via card:
0000:00:0e.0 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82xxxx UHCI USB 1.1 Controller (rev 04) (prog-if 00 [UHCI])
Subsystem: VIA Technologies, Inc. (Wrong ID) USB Controller
Flags: bus master, stepping, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 24
I/O ports at f2010040 [size=32]
The Mac has a Bandit PCI host bridge and a Grand Central I/O controller.
Here is the boot.msg stuff about the card:

Was there anything else that I needed to post about the posible bug where the USB Mouse, USB printer, or USB camera were not recognized?
Thanx for all the help.

I started installing RC1 on my system this morning. I have noticed something that happens in both Beta3 and RC1. When installing on a low memory system, you are booted into text mode. If you switch screens by doing the CTRL-ALT-# to check for module loading(tty3) or kernel messages(tty4), YaST will initialize the text mode installer on the terminal that is currently on the screen. This cased an installation headache for me when I installed Beta3, because YaST's screen would be messed up when kernel messages are posted, and I've been able to duplicate it on RC1. I've got more memory coming and I will see if it does the graphical install when I get the memory in the machine. Is anyone else using an old world Mac like my 7500?

Does anyone have any ideas about why I'd see around 20 to 25% CPU
utilization due to X, as seen in ksysguard? This is on a G4 Powermac
Digital Audio running OpenSUSE 10.0 PPC RC1.
Thank-you

Hi, hopefully this is the right place to be posting this.
I have a Powerbook G3/500 (Pismo) with a dead LCD display and an
external CRT attached to it. I
can get a nice console up on the CRT by passing 'video=ofonly' to the
boot (or in lilo.conf), but am
unable to get X to run.
I saw a discussion earlier when I was searching through google that
used "m3mirror", but I am not
sure a) how to install/use m3mirror and b) how I would go about
making the required configuration
change 'm3mirror lcd:0 crt:1' if that is indeed a solution to this
problem.
Any help would be appreciated as I would really like to have X
working on this machine.
Thanks
Greg Evans
