Hi,
I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to
go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that
there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev"
and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0
length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this
could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have
installed a rootkit or some such ?
I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange.
Cheers
Damir

Hi.
Has anybody managed/not managed to get an Advansys scsi card working in PPC
Linux?
I have a PM8600 and an Advansys ASB-3940-U2W scsi card. The card works
fine under MacOS.
Unfortunately this is not the case with Linux. I have tried compiling
numerous kernels from various different sources (2.4.20-8d, benh-2.4.22,
2.4.22), both with Advansys support built in and Advansys support as a
module, but the same thing always happens. The machine freezes completely.
I do not get the problem when the Advansys card has been phyically removed
from the machine.
I understand that a couple of years ago there was an issue to do with
big/little-endianism which prevented the Advansys driver working on PPC
machines, but I can't find anything more recent about this. I get the
impression that this problem is supposed to have been sorted out.
The Advansys website is useless about this, despite some fluffy witterings
about their commitment to Linux. I'm not holding out much hope that they
will reply to my email.
The only thing I can think of left to try is to update the firmware to OSX
compatibility, but this would prevent me using the card in MacOS 9, which I
don't want to happen.
Thanks
Robert
Hello all. I am trying to install 7.0 on the
following system: umax c500 running a 603e at 200
mhz.(but with a L2 cache slot g3 card running at 400
mhz) I have 144 mb ram, and I have added a 2 usb/2
firewire pci card.
when I try to boot off of the cd the installer seems
to work fine until it gets to the scsi cd-rom
drive(matshita cd-rom cr 506 with driver version
5.3.1) then the last three lines are scsi:0:mesh,
scsi:1 host, mesh:target 3 synchronous at 5.0 mb/s
after that last line the system hangs. I have waited
as long as 20 minutes and nothing happens. I have
tried to boot from a hfs partition but the same result
occurs. I also tried downloading the latest version
of the ppc kernel and booting from hd, but that had
the same result. any help would be greatly
appreciated.

OK, i can change the order of the partitions, that is no problem. Maybe
that will help

Ah... PDF files... guess i have to bite the bullet and get the Acrobat
Reader first...

But at this point i'll have to do without manual. :-)

And many thanks for the detailed replies, Will.
I'll report back here as to how things are going. :-)
