am I hacked ?

Hi, I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev" and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0 length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have installed a rootkit or some such ? I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange. Installing onto a Powerbook 1400....

Can any one help? I have been given a Powerbook 1400 and really want to put SuSE 7.3 PPC on it! The only problem is how! Their website said the model isn't supported, but I have been to MKLinux and it says their version supports it but not the EXT SCSI. Is this the case with SuSE? Has anyone had any experience in doing this or encountered any problems. I have spoken to them and they suggested that I contact you guys/galls and see if you are able to help. TIA, Andy

Correct way to update 6.4 to 7.3 via FTP

Hi all, I'm no to this list, so hello to everyone. I've installed Suse 6.4 on a Umax Clone (Apus 3000). Now I would like to update to 7.3 via FTP. Can anyone tell me the right way to do this? There are two ways I already tried to no avail: The sdb suggests to download the 7.0 installer. This way I could start the installation but it stopped in the middle of the installation. I let it run overnight but it did not finish nor time out. The readme on the ftp server suggests downloading bootx 1.2.2 and a kernel called install-oldworld. This gives me a crash when trying to boot. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Ole

I'm a linux newbie and am encountering an installation problem via ftp on my G4. When being prompted for the directory on the server I enter: /pub/suse/suse/i386/7.3 /pub/suse/ppc/7.3 /pub/suse/ppc/current /pub/suse/i386/7.3 I keep receiving the error "while accessing the FTP server: file not found on server". I cannot get passed this part and would like any suggestions from anyone else who is or has done an installation via ftp. Thanks all!!!
