The iBook G3 come with a white LED that's active if the device sleeps.
On 10.2 during installation you seem to misuse it to signal hard disk
activity. How can I disable it?

Hi,
I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to
go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that
there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev"
and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0
length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this
could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have
installed a rootkit or some such ?
I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange.
Cheers
Damir

I have uploaded an 80MB boot.iso for PReP systems.
boot/ppc/zImage.prep.initrd is the bootfile, it should be possible to
load this file also from harddisk or via tftp.
A 10.2-bet2 testinstall was almost successful. But I forgot to replace
the installed kernel-default.rpm from the orginial install media with the
one on the uploaded boot.iso, so my MTX+ is stuck now until I reset it.
The bootloader install will not work out of the box. YaST will not
figure out a valid boot device. To workaround this, go into the
bootloader config in YaST. There is a pulldown menu on the right side.
Select 'Edit configuration file'. Add 'default=linux' and
'boot=/dev/sda' as global options for lilo.conf.
After package installation, YaST will reboot the system. It does not
know that the shipped kernel-default will not work on PReP. To work
around this, boot again from the boot.iso. Instead of fresh install or
upgrade, select 'Other -> boot into installed system', and continue with
the installation. Once you have done that, install the kernel-default.rpm
from the boot.iso.
sax2 is currently unusable, it will write an incomplete and unusuable
xorg.conf. I dont know in what shape xorg7.1 is for the graphics cards
in PReP systems. The mga driver may work, but better stick with fbdev.
'Xorg -configure' should be able to write a xorg.conf that can be used
as a start.

Ok, so far I have successfully installed v10.2 on a PowerMac 9600/300 with the following specs
Sonnet G4/700/1M
1024MB RAM
Adaptec 19160 PCI SCSI Card
Promise PCI ATA100 Card
ATI Radeon 7000 w/ 32MB
Opti PCI USB 1.1 card
18GB U160 SCSI drive
Lite-on DVD-RW
Well, the new KDE theme is different. Other than the annoying habit of the K-menu to come up(found and CHANGED) when I hover the mouse over it, the desktop is nice. I did have a few questions tho:
1. Why is there no 3d support for the Radeon 7000 I think this has been covered before, but I couldn't find it on google. It would be nice to be able to make use of the 3d on this card since ATI doesn't even offer a driver for Linux/PPC
2. My monito information wasn't saved by the installer. It defaulted back to 800x600 VESA.
3. When the system first started after the installation was done, it said it was in runlevel 5, but there were no logins available on any of the consoles. I had to switch to runlevel 3 from an X console to get them.
4. How come Midnight Commander is no longer a part of the default install?
5. Before, the apple key was the alt key in X and the Alt key worked in the console. Now, it's always the apple key.
So far so good. This is a much better release than v10.1. Keep up the good work guys. What's planned for 10.3?

Hello,
Finally I had some time to make documentation. Here is the first version
of my install guide for openSUSE 10.2 on Pegasos PPC:
http://en.opensuse.org/PegasosQuickStart102
Thanks to the openSuSE POWER team, the guide became a lot shorter,
compared to the 10.1 version :-) If I left out some generic (non Pegasos
specific) info, it would be just a half screen. Bye,

Hi All,
Finally downloaded 10.2 and installed it on my G5 1.6
tower. Two things, do any of you see K3BSetup? I
can't find it anywhere. Also, I don't have any sound.
and can't get sound started, so no Amarok. Kmix icon
in tray has an x over it. Any suggestions on getting
sound to work? When I go to the hardware pane in
Sound System, and try to start sound, I get a progress
bar that starts at 0 and goes to 100 over and over
again, but no sound ever starts. Never had that
problem in 10.1. Thanks.

Looks like the graphics driver is not loading, during installation, the text
mode installer indicates that there limit memory thus text base install.
After installing it still provides a text base UI.
The miniMac has 256M of RAM.
I installed FC6 and uses X for the installer and it can use X after
installation. Looks like it is not finding the graphics card. Any ideas?
