Hi,
I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to
go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that
there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev"
and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0
length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this
could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have
installed a rootkit or some such ?
I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange.
Cheers
Damir

hello,
it is a certain time ago, since I tried to install Linux on my imac. It
succeeded before, but as I tried
to install it again, it stuck in the installation-process. I´ve read the
different explanations in the sdb.
Since now I thought it was, because I changed the blocks and cylinders of
the swap-Partition by navigating
with the cursor-arrows in the expert-mode. Installation without swap and ram
set to 120mb failed, I got
the message "mk2fs1.19, 13 jul...".
The Installation stuck in different states of the process, depending on the
selected software. I can`t
remember, if it allways had something to do with Modem-Stuff, for which a
workaround is suggested, but
there weren`t Problems with it before anyhow.
Meanwhile I think it might rather have to do with a dirty
cd-rom-drive-lense, because it doesn`t work as
good as new anymore.
My questions:
Is it an excluding fact for the swap-idea, when Installation fails with
higher ram, without swap-partition?
Has anyone experience in cleaning the cd-rom lense?
Is it usefull to take it apart?

hi all,
I've got a PPC (PowerMac 7300 with G4 card) set up as firewall for our
student-home-network. Now one of my friends uses icq-phone to talk to
his girlfriend abroad.... and since I'm a nice guy, I'd like to allow
him that ;-)
now here's the config and the problem:
suse 7.3, kernel 2.4.12, installation method: suse predefined server
config
the mac is our dhcp, dns, masquerading server and also our firewall.
icq-phone uses udp port's 6701 for icq-phone (sniffed with ettercap and
ethereal)
a connection between my friend and his girl can be established, but
they cannot communicate... I don't know why!
for testing purposes I set the firewall to minimal security, allowing
all ports above 1024 to come in and out.
has anyone got an idea how I could solve this problem?
My only guess is that I have to to enable a port forwarding from the
server to the friend's client on the port 6701? could that solve our
problems?
thanks for any help!!
cheers

Hi all,
I'm trying to use yaboot (non-SuSE, but original),
and it's locking on nvupdate.
I tryed to use nvupdate by hand, and I discovered
that it is doing nothing. It hangs. I type Ctrl-C
and it stops without crashing.
Any idea on what's wrong?
Note, I'm using Suse PPC 7.3 on a IBM 7046-B50 CHRP
server.
Thanks!
Herbert
Hi everybody,
Yesterday I tried to install SuSE 7.3 on a IBM RS600 B50
(model 7046, the one without video adapter), I booted from
the console using the procedure and the images described
at the url :
http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/ubrueck_floppyinstall.html
the boot process works perfectly (from the OF prompt I used the
line boot floppy:,zimage root=/dev/fd0 load_ramdisk=1
console=ttyS0,9600 fake_initrd) except for one thing :
when I try to load the network card module I get an error
saying that is impossible to load the module lance32 ; my machine
has 2 ADM PCNET ethernet adpter, so the driver should be
the right one (I used it on SuSE ppc 7.0) , I also tried to
remove one of the adapters (the one on PCI BUS) but unfortunately
nothing changed. I tried also the autoprobing, but it didn't load
the network module.
Is there something that I'm missing ? could you suggest me something ?
thanks in advance
M.

Hi,
I want to update the kernel for my B50
and just found 2.4.18 PPC patch port.
There is no need for patch anymore??
Or there is another patch for 2.4.20 ??
Thanks!
Herbert
