The iBook G3 come with a white LED that's active if the device sleeps.
On 10.2 during installation you seem to misuse it to signal hard disk
activity. How can I disable it?

Hi,
I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to
go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that
there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev"
and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0
length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this
could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have
installed a rootkit or some such ?
I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange.
Cheers
Damir

Hi,
I know this has been mentioned in the past a few times - Has anybody
managed to get OpenSuSE 10.x on to a PS3 yet? - Is there somewhere a
otheros.bld file specific for OpenSuSE? - I have trawled around and so
far I have only seen success stories of Fedora, Yellow Dog, Gentoo and
Ubunto where Fedora and YDL have a distro that actually supports the PS3
and the other two are more of a painful hack to get to work. I have also
heard rumors of Debian working but not seen definite guides. - I would
like to stay loyal to SuSE if I can but if that is not viable I may have
to bite the bullet and go for Fedora.
Regards
Hubba

Hello,
If I understand right on openSuSE 10.2 you configure a ppc "lilo" which in
turn configures yaboot.
My (small) problem is that I tried to configure lilo to have MacOS boot by
default The relevent lines are:
default = MacOS_X and
(...)
other = /dev/hda10
label = MacOS_X
The first line also appeared in YDL's yaboot.conf, but not the two others.
Now, when I boot, I get an option to "press space to boot Mac OS", and it does
work (I guess that's openfirmware talking). If I just let go, it tries to
boot MacOS but fails with this message:
/pci@f2000000/mac-io@17/ata-4@1f000/disk@0:9,\\MacOS_X: Unable to open file,
Invalid device
Is my lilo.conf syntax wrong, or must I change something in the openfirmware?
The YDL yaboot.conf worked with th same configuration (as far as Mac OS is
concerned).
Thanks,
Thierry

Hello,
I've tried to install 10.2 on an old PowerBook Titanium 500Mhz (Radeon M6 LY),
but I can't get X to work. Anyone tried? Is this an xorg vs Xfree86 problem?
The only "recent" Linux I found that does manage it correctly is Yellow Dog
4.1. However, running SuSE 10.2 on my PCs, I'd love to see it on my PPC as
well.

I am using 10.2 on a PowerBook Pismo (G3, 32 bit) and am v. happy with it.
I just installed and got everything configured in the last week. I am now
trying to update. I am using KDE as my desktop. The default update program
in the panel is the GNOME one. I tried that, but it insisted on installing
all the 64bit packages. I didn't want to do that so I aborted and
configured the KDE one. On selecting to update the packages, it took me to
Yast, but again had a bunch of 64 bit packages selected. I went through
these and removed all the automatically selected 64bit packages, but ended
up with the following error:
#### YaST2 conflicts list - generated 2007-03-14 16:00:03 ####
atom:bind-libs-64bit-9.3.2-56.1.ppc[20070314-152336] cannot be installed

Conflict Resolution:
( ) install bind-libs-64bit
( ) do not install bind-libs-64bit
( ) Ignore this requirement just here
...
and so on for 16 different packages...
If I select ( ) do not install bind-libs-64bit, and click on try again, I
get the following:
#### YaST2 conflicts list - generated 2007-03-14 16:16:05 ####
patch:bind-2529-0.noarch[20070314-152336] cannot be installed due to

( ) unlock all resolvables
( ) do not install bind
do not install patch:bind-2529-0.noarch[20070314-152336]
( ) Ignore this requirement just here
...
again for all packages, except libsoup-devel-64bit, which was not listed
this time.
I must confess, I don't quite understand all this, but have now selected
the "do not install" option for each of these patches, and the rest of the
update seems to be going fine. I assume that these are actually 64 bit
packages, despite the "noarch." But if not, is there something I am
missing? How do I apply these patches? Do I need to?
Any assistance in clarifying this would be appreciated.

I've ran into a bit of an issue. I'd already posted on how my
Wallstreet II wouldn't go to sleep properly, and when forced to slep by
closing the lid, the backlight wouldn't work. Well, now, if I leave it
running, plugged in, when I try to use it, the Backlight will stay off.
I have to reboot to get it to work. It works fine in OS 9.2.2, but
not in openSuSE v10.2. It worked fine in v10.0.........Sleep also
worked in v10.0.
Thoughts? Thanx.

Hi guys. I managed to pickup a G3 All-in-One machine. It was a
G3/233/512k, with a revision 2 ROM. I have managed to get Linux up and
running on this machine fairly easily. All the hardware was detected
properly.
Some issues:
1. Got the issue with YOU wanting to download the 64bit libraries on
the first update. I did not install ZMD. I used:
suse.mirrors.tds.net/pub/suse/update/10.2
2. Issue with the Internet test. If I select "Yes" and try to test
the connection, it always fails. If I drop to tty2, I can verify a
network connection with ifconfig. If I select "No", it automatically
checks for internet sources, and the asks if I want to add them. Not
sure why it tries to test the connection when I say no, and why I can't
get it to worl when I select "Yes".
3. Does anyone have any idea how to edit the BootX preferences with
Resedit? BootX's "GrabG3CacheSetting" program doesn't work on G4's/ I
have put a G4/350 in this machine, and it tries to use the G3's cache
setting, which fails. If I add "lcr=0xb908000", it doesn't work. I
haven't been able to figure out if v2.6 supports this or not. I've
seen post about editting the preference file with ResEdit, but since I
have never used ResEdit, I have no clue how to edit it........
Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanx
