Hallo,
probiert --> auch kein Erfolg.

We will try to build it with 6.4, but I have not much hope.

gcc-2.95.3-5
binutils-2.9.5.0.24-117
shlibs-2.1.3-162

Even Franz has no idea, appearently.

Better fix other things than kde2 :=)

That is really strange. I built from tarballs the entire KDE 1.93 source just a month or so ago and ened up running Koquereor (and even testing its java interface with blackdown, testing the window manager to make sure it works with jdk 1.3, etc and it all worked fine.
What versions of binutils, gcc, and glibc does SuSE 6.4 ship with?
I have never heard of a binary incompatibility. People have reported that the jdk 1.3 works under SuSE 6.4 and it was built using gcc-2.93 2c, glibc 2.1.3, and binuitls 2.0.10.24.
Hmm...something is very funny here. I am going to grab the KDE 2 source tarballs and do a build and create binary tarballs for people to grab and try on SuSE 6.4

Hmm, problems afterwards? The problem must be pretty obscure since I have been using what I built on a day to day basis with no real problems that have impacted me.
Perhaps we should ask Franz directly here?
Franz,
Can we compile and run KDE 2.0 src tarballs using your latest tool chain (latest gcc from your site, latest binutils from H.J. Lu, and latest glibc 2.1.3 from your site) and if not, what if anything needs fixing / updating?
Thanks,
Kevin
Hi,
What is wrong with the current ppc compiler? Franz Sirl has a 2.93 -2f rpm set he has put togther that has lots of stuff backported from the current cvs tree.
I have been building and using the KDE 1.9.X series with no problems to this point built from the source tarballs?
What changed in the final KDE 2.0 series that prevents the current tool chain from working (binutils .24, gcc 2.93-2f, glibc-2.1.3)?
Specifics would help here?
Thanks,
Kevin

I'm trying Suse's 2.2.16 beta kernel on an iMac. I was hoping to get my
usb zip drive or external hd working, but during bootup I get the
message that usb-ohci failed to load, suggesting I check the BIOS
settings. I didn't think that was an issue on ppc's.
I installed the 2.2.16 rpm package for ppc from the SuSE ftp site. I
also installed the new devs.rpm (06-2000) and new usb.rpm (version
.50). I've got the usb mouse working fine.
Any idea why ohci is failing?

On my Apple Powermac Performa 6400/200 MHz,
standard SuSE 6.4 installation including
MoL 0.9.41
ls -al /usr/lib/mol/modules/*
shows
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 46104 May 30 13:00 /usr/lib/mol/modules/mol.o
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7237 May 30 13:00 /usr/lib/mol/modules/sheep_net.o
and
insmod -f /usr/lib/mol/modules/*.o
complains with
/usr/lib/mol/modules/mol.o: init_module: Device or resource busy.
Not surprisingly,
startmol
does not start and
complains specifically about
the 603e processor.
Solution is clear: patch the kernel,
compile and generate own modules.
However, I do not have the skill
and the hard disk space.
Would a kind soul provide me with
a suitable mol.o and sheep_net.o ?

I've got a Zoom Dual modem which I'd like to use with my mac PB 2400
running SuSE 6.4 with a 2.2.16 kernel.
But I get an error when trying to load the serial_cs modeule:
root@AndyPeng:/etc > modprobe serial_cs
/lib/modules/2.2.16/pcmcia/serial_cs.o: unresolved symbol
unregister_serial
/lib/modules/2.2.16/pcmcia/serial_cs.o: unresolved symbol
register_serial
/lib/modules/2.2.16/pcmcia/serial_cs.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.2.16/pcmcia/serial_cs.o failed
/lib/modules/2.2.16/pcmcia/serial_cs.o: insmod serial_cs failed
Anyone know what the problem is?

Has anyone gotten an Apple Laserwriter to work yet?
I can get files to print through to the printer but I can't get it to
print in anything other font but courier.
I know I have to set up a filter but am not sure how to do it.
Any help would be great. Thanks in Advance
