Hi,
I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to
go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that
there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev"
and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0
length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this
could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have
installed a rootkit or some such ?
I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange.
Cheers
Damir

I've just installed SLES9 on a IBM 7025 F50 with 2 processors. In
contrast to SLES8 there was no problem during the installation process.
The only problem is that YaST installed default kernel (non SMP). I've
installed the SMP kernel that ships with the distribution, ran mk_initrd
and made the relevant changes to yaboot. However this kernel won't boot
the machine, in fact the boot process aborts before the kernel is loaded
into memory.
Is there anybody using SLES9 on a F50 with multi processor support?

Hi list,
I am installing SLES9 SP1 on on p615 and OpenPower using software raid. I
am using md0 for / (root) and md1 for LVM and usrlv, varlv, homelv etc. on
it.
This is how my partitioning looks like:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 12 24560 6 FAT16
/dev/sda2 18 118 206848 fd Linux raid
autodetect
/dev/sda3 119 17357 35305472 fd Linux raid
autodetect
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 * 1 12 24560 6 FAT16
/dev/sdb2 18 118 206848 fd Linux raid
autodetect
/dev/sdb3 119 17357 35305472 fd Linux raid
autodetect
After the base installation the system is not bootable: "Config file error:
Syntax error near line 2 in file yaboot.cnf ".
So I need to start a rescue system, mount the /dev/sda1 and remove the line
"partition= " in the yaboot.cnf .
This line is produced by /sbin/lilo script, line 397:
echo "partition = ${yaboot_part##*:}"
Changing the line to test -z "${yaboot_part##*:}" || echo "partition =
${yaboot_part##*:}" would help, unfortunately I only can do it in the
autoyast or remove the "partition=" line in the postinstall script.
Do you have any ideas how to correct this during manual installation
without using a rescue system?

Hello,
I would like to use XFS on Power at least for data partitions. For some
reason XFS is not included in the file system list in Yast, I also did not
managed to use it in autoyast.
After the installation of the xfs-utils it was easy to format a logical
volume with xfs on command line.
What is the reason, for not including XFS in the Yast? Are there some known
issues about using XFS on Power? Is it supported?

Hi,
When using IBM C++ compiler xlC on SLES, I came
across the following problem. When the attached
program is compiled with xlC, it reports: The wrong
number of arguments have been specified for
"regcomp()". The C compiler xlc does not have such
problem. I wonder if anybody has some advice on how to
address this. I have been asking quite several
questions here lately :).
-Jonas.
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <regex.h>
main()
{
regex_t * regp;
char * exp;
int flag;
regcomp(regp, exp,flag);
}

Hi,
The elf format definition document did not say how
the .line section is defined. Does anyone know where
to get such information for PPC?
I am trying to map a function symbol to the file
where it is defined. I don't get any clue from the ELF
document how this should be done. Can anybody here
give some hints?
I know that GNU BINUTILS does this, but I didn't get
through the source code.
Thanks.
Jonas

Hello!
Thanks for responding. I was primarily interested because I had been told that RPMs are a little distribution-specific. That is, RPMs for Redhat might not work 100%
with SuSE, and so forth. I was sort of prompted to think about this when I was trying to install GNUstep on my SuSE box. I carefully downloaded all the software the
packages were dependant on, compiled each with no problems (not RPMs, tar.gz files). GNUstep, however, started throwing warnings left and right, and although it
compiled, a couple programs wouldn't start correctly (Project Builder would segfault, for example). I don't think it's an issue with GNUstep per se. I probably
misconfigured something or didn't run Make with the right flags or something. Anyway, it was a hassle. I don't mind downloading tarballs and
configuring & compiling them, but it's just easier if there's a package system that handles the details automatically. It's kind of the lazy way out, but it reduces
hassle.
