Hi,
I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to
go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that
there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev"
and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0
length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this
could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have
installed a rootkit or some such ?
I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange.
Cheers
Damir

Hi there,
I'm sorry for sending you this query maybe you can help since I cant find
any info elsewhere,
Ive installed suse 10.0 on a b50 all is well there. The problem I have is
that I've set up another b50
With fedora 5 but I have a garbled screen problem. I was wondering if I can
copy xorg.conf from suse and apply it to fedora.
Once again sorry ..
Hello all,
i have a iBook G4 1,33GHz (mid-2005) with Gentoo Linux running on it.
Since I use SuSE Linux on all my x86 machines, I would like to know how
the newly available SuSE PPC runs on the iBook :-)
I installed the 10.1 beta5 via network. Now I'm trying to get X to work.
Every configuration I tried so far only results in a black screen. Then
all I can do is login with ssh, read logs and reboot. Starting sax2
results also in the black screen. sax2-vesa returns to the terminal and says:
xc: sorry could not start configuration server
xc: for details refer to the log file:
/var/log/SaX.log

Hello,
I had already this week a posting about:
10.1 beta? tested in an IBM pSeries virtual partition
I continued testing on a different machine IBM pSeries 610 (7028) native
without any virtualization options, again I receive an error after booting:
*** An error occurred during the installation.
Has anybody tested Suse 10 beta4 on a IBM PPC machine?
Helmut
Hello,
I have tested some weeks ago a 10.1 beta build within a pSeries virtual
partition. It was booting from CD but during the install I got some
error messages about missing files.
Has somebody tested 10.1.x in an pSeries partition environment?
Has the test done using a 32 bit or 64 bit kernel?
I like to resume tests with the upcoming 10.1 beta5.
Thanks
Helmut
(I just downloaded beta3 and then 10 minutes later I see beta4
announced!)
Anyway, it seems that sound is still broken on an iMac G5 for the
beta3 release. The install goes through easily enough, but I learnt
from last time that I needed to deselect sound in the hardware config
towards the end so I tried that again.
This time the machine locks up when I try to deselect sound so I'm
stuck. If I leave sound enabled the machine will be useless after
the install and when I try to disable sound the machine locks up!
(It locks up when I select the drop down list box (in the hardware
configuration screen) intending to deselect sound)
I think I read on the linux ppc64 list that sound on G5 might be
fixed recently so maybe a newer kernel for the install disks might do
the trick?
regards,
Chris

Konstantin.
Hi,
I wonder how to build the kernel-syms RPM for ppc?
First, I build theses RPMs :
kernel-source,
kernel-default,
kernel-smp,
kernel-iseries64,
kernel-pseries64 and
kernel-pmac64.
Then I installed all theses RPMs.
And, I was trying to build kernel-syms. But I get this message:
# rpmbuild --clean --target ppc -ba kernel-syms.spec Building target
platforms: ppc
Building for target ppc
error: Failed build dependencies:
kernel-pmac64_32bit is needed by kernel-syms-2.6.5-7.191
kernel-power3 is needed by kernel-syms-2.6.5-7.191
Where are kernel-pmac64_32bit and kernel-power3 come from ?
How to get them ?
Targeted kernel (arch) : 2.6.5-7.191 (ppc)
SuSE : sles 9 SP2
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Erwan.
