Hi,
I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to
go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that
there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev"
and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0
length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this
could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have
installed a rootkit or some such ?
I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange.
Cheers
Damir

I've just installed SLES9 on a IBM 7025 F50 with 2 processors. In
contrast to SLES8 there was no problem during the installation process.
The only problem is that YaST installed default kernel (non SMP). I've
installed the SMP kernel that ships with the distribution, ran mk_initrd
and made the relevant changes to yaboot. However this kernel won't boot
the machine, in fact the boot process aborts before the kernel is loaded
into memory.
Is there anybody using SLES9 on a F50 with multi processor support?

Hi all,
I was just wondering if there are any package managers for SuSE 7.3 that off relatively up to date packages. I know that 7.3 uses RPMS, but my understanding is that the
RPMs for SuSE at this version level were slightly different from everyone else's, which led to compiling problems. Is there any kind of package management system out
there that can be used instead of the old SuSE RPM system?

Hi,
I found that my current installation of SLES does
not
allow passwd with length more than 8 chars. It just
truncated them. How should I make it allow passwds
with longer length?
Thanks
Jonas

Hi,
We need CDE help widget library when porting an old
piece of code. I wonder if anybody knows where to get
that for SUSE on PPC. Thanks.

Hi list,
... after the latest SLES9 (ppc64) kernel updates from 2.6.5-7.111.19 to
2.6.5-7.145 on an IBM js20 (blade) and a reboot , uups , the system won't
come up ?!...

As help and to see the system again i did this:
Booted into rescue mode and back to the disk. Changed the yaboot.cnf manually.
In yaboot.conf line 2 there is : parameter=
This is wrong.
Now my theorie is, that maybe in /etc/lilo.conf is something .. lets say, not so good. Or maybe the script /sbin/lilo has a bug.
Until now i located /sbin/lilo as evil baby and changed the following lines :
--------------------------- /sbin/lilo -----------------------
# starting the work and write the yaboot.conf
{
echo "# header section"
echo "# partition = ${yaboot_part##*:}"
--------------------------- /sbin/lilo -----------------------
Now it works fine.
Anyone ever seen this ? Any good idea how to fix it permanently (without misusing the rescue cd all the time ..)
regards
Hi,
Unfortunately I have to upgrade from SLES 7 to SLES
8.
But when I start X server, it reports that
"Failed to load module 'mga' (module does not
exist,0)".
When I istall the machine, Yast2 was able to start
up a crude X (I guess the resolution was 640*480).
Does anybody have any advice on how to fix this?
Even the crude 640*480 screen would be better than
nothing.
Thanks.
