The iBook G3 come with a white LED that's active if the device sleeps.
On 10.2 during installation you seem to misuse it to signal hard disk
activity. How can I disable it?

Hello,
I'm testing factory PPC right now, and ran into a problem. The driver
update I prepared for 11.0 does not seem to work on current factory. It
is quite dumb, just a dud.config and an update.post2:
homeserver:/home/dud/linux # find . -type f -print -exec cat {} \;
./suse/ppc-11.0/install/update.post2
#!/bin/sh
# (c) CzP: pczanik(a)genesi-usa.com
# This script creates a bootable zImage file just before rebooting the
machine
# and also creates a sound.forth devtree fixup
cd /boot
mkzimage --vmlinux vmlinux --initrd initrd --output zImage
cat > sound.forth <<EOF
\ FORTH
s" /builtin/sound" find-device
\ Audio is on PSC2, just for informational purposes
1 encode-int s" cell-index" property
device-end
EOF
./suse/ppc-11.0/dud.config
UpdateName: Driver Update for Genesi Efika 5200B (v004)
UpdateID: 200808041508
UpdatePriority: 100
homeserver:/home/dud/linux #
What changed? Right now I get 'no updates found'...

JFYI, rsync and httpd are now running on powerpc.opensuse.org and the
factory snapshot is accessible now. I don't know the state of the
snapshot though.

Opensuse 11.1 beta 2 on PS3 does not bring a lot of joy for me, and I really think something i rotten.
Here my observations.
My PS3 is latest firmware from Sony (well almost it is not the 2.50, that JUST came out but 2.43)
I formatted the disc, partitioning etc, so disc should be clean.
Then it boots up on the DVD, and the nice installer begins to do its job.
BUT at the moment of partitioning, if I do NOT accept the partitioning, the partition tool launch to customize partitions is not having a good day, I think some 32/64 bit issue. It is not capable of calculate partitions larger than 2Gb (two!! Gigabyte). So though the Disc is already limited in the PS3, 2Gb is pushing it a bit :-)
But if I accept the partitioning, and move on then the REAL problem arises:
The installation halts! After choosing KDE desktop, and NOT entering user info, displaying warnings, it jumps to root password, and then freezes. Mouse still moves, but no interaction possible - reproduces every time.
While writing this, I realize I should have tested by entering a user - will try to do this tonight.
If you ask me to do bugzilla's I am ready at the keyboard :-)

A week passed. Any news on this? http://powerpc.opensuse.org/ still
gives 403 :-(

We are in the proces of setting up an email server using postfix
compiled with “DOVECOT“, “TLS“, “BDB“, “MySQL“, and “VDA”. SLES 10
provides postfix 2.2.9 and we need a versio > 2.3.0.
We are attemting to create a secure (smtps, pop3s, imaps) virtual user
email service on our power5 with SLES10.2 with encrypted passwords.
In an attemt to build from postifxi srpm
rpmbuild --rebuild --target=ppc64 postfix-2.3.2-12.6.src.rpm
we see:
/usr/bin/ld:warning: powerpc:common64 architecture of input file XXX
is incompatible with powerpc:common output
and /usr/src/packages/BUILD/postfix-2.3.2/src/global/dict_mysql.c:444:
undefined reference to `msg_info'
in an attempt to rectiffy the mysql problems we tried building mysql
from the srpm.. but this fails with the message
libstdc++.so: could not read symbols: File in wrong format
How can we build potfix > 2.3.0 with the needed support?--

Does this also apply to installations on Sony PS3?
Anyones best guess?
I have (almost) been holding my breath for this release.

So it is not even worth downloading beta2 for 32bit PPC machines. I'll
file a couple more bugs about the partitioner...

Yes. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=431905 The ssh client
