The iBook G3 come with a white LED that's active if the device sleeps.
On 10.2 during installation you seem to misuse it to signal hard disk
activity. How can I disable it?

Hi,
I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to
go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that
there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev"
and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0
length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this
could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have
installed a rootkit or some such ?
I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange.
Cheers
Damir

I am looking for a copy of SuSE v7.3/ppc. If anyone would happen to
know where I can get a copy of it, I would be very grateful. Thanx

Hello,
Kernel support for a couple of Genesi and Genesi related PPC board is
improving all the time (just as all parts of the Linux kernel). We
thought, that by providing slightly modified kernels, user experience
could be improved. For example, a patch almost doubling HDD performance
on the EFIKA appeared right after openSUSE 11.0 was relesed. The proper
way of doing this would be providing kernel rpms.
The readme in the kernel source package is a bit lacking:
"Instead of building binary kernels by hand, you can also build
one of the kernel-$FLAVOR packages using RPM."
'make rpm' in the kernel source directory did not bring the expected
results. And I could not find a matching document for it in he openSUSE
wiki. So, my question is, what is the proper way to create a modified
kernel rpm based openSUSE kernel sources + custom patches?
Bye,
CzP

I'm forwarding this to the opensuse-ppc list. Please jointhis list by mailing:

I also forwarded it to our resident genesi guru, Peter Czanik.

Not sure what you mean. When the installation system is downloaded,
it's being loaded into ram. It has a 4 part thing. Once that is
done, the installation starts.

If you have less than 256MB RAM, you will need to setup a swap
partition first, or the installer will probably fail. Also, please
list you system specs. Since you say you have 160MB, I assume you are
using a PCI PowerMac(Beige) or a Beige G3?
I also sent this message to the opensuse-ppc list, which is a better
place for you to get answers on PPC hardware related questions. You

1)I boot the installer(11.0) from a harddrive partition(hfsplus)
and the installation system is downloaded from an opensuse
repository.I tested already and stopped when five percent or so
of the installation system was already downloaded.I need to know
to where the installation system is downloaded,to the same
hfsplus partition from where I booted the installation kernel?
I have 250MB free space on that partition and at first sight it
seems enough and in principle nothing in that partition will be
erased(I assume there are controls to avoid that).
2)I have 160MB memory,so is it safe to use X based 11.0 installer
or would be better to use : install textmode=1 at the install
boot prompt?

I checked the web interface and also the wiki, but I could only find
examples for individual packages. How can I link a complete repository
in one go? For example everything from KDE:/KDE4:/UNSTABLE:/Desktop/
instead of individual packages in this repo?

My G4 with aty128 video card defaults to the framebuffer display for KDE.
Worse than that is that it chooses 800 by 600 display ... when it's easily
capable of 1024 by 768. Can you please suggest some post installation tweaks
to get the display I want every time? Thank you.

Hello,
I got now a bit stronger PPC machine standing next to my desk (
http://en.opensuse.org/MPC8610 ). This brought me the idea, that I
should recompile some buildservice projects for PPC (like:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Enlightenment/ or
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/UNSTABLE:/Desktop/
). Before trying it myself I read some of the documentation, but I still
have a couple of questions:
- does the buildservice work at all on PPC?
- if yes, is it a simple recompile of all files at
http://ftp-1.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/openSUSE:/Tools/openSUSE_11.…
on PPC?
- is it possible to check out a project from BS, like
KDE4:/Unstable:/Desktop and recompile it locally for PPC in one go? I
mean, without needing to compile individual source rpms one by one and
needing to figure out the build order...
