The iBook G3 come with a white LED that's active if the device sleeps.
On 10.2 during installation you seem to misuse it to signal hard disk
activity. How can I disable it?

I think a new thread is called for here.
As mentioned somewhere in the thread "Booting
openSUSE-NET-ppc-Build0003-Media.iso" I'm having trouble installing
factory on my old 1999 G3 machine.
I can boot the NET image as described in that thread, using a local copy
of the factory repo and vsftp. But YaST then reports no hard disc, and
getting a console with Alt-F2 and running pdisk confirms this. I assume
the necessary module is not being loaded, but not sure what to look for.
The hardware is just fine, running mac OS-X and Opensuse 11.0 if I boot
the installed hard disc.
Running lspci offers very few likely interfaces for the hd, apart from
several with "host bridge" in the name. Comparing the output from lsmod
with that from OSL 11.0 yields few clues either.
Please can anyone help with tracking down the module that I need to get
the installer under way?

As many are aware, Linus Torvalds has started a rant about the
security policies in openSUSE for things that require the root
password. From his Google+
post(https://plus.google.com/102150693225130002912/posts/1vyfmNCYpi5),
he names these:
Time Zone changes
Adding a Printer
Adding a wireless network.
Now, I don't usually see the wireless issue because KNetworkmanager in
KDE3(which I use) has never asked the root password for adding a new
network.
While at 37, I've never changed timezones(I lead a boring life) I
would have to agree that having to use the root password for this
would be annoying if I needed to change it because of a flight or
something.
I've worked with Linus on a hardware issue years ago, and I think we
should probably at least consider reviewing the policies if they do
need changed.
Just my 2 cents.

Hi there,
just a few words how to boot current factory on PowerMac.
I tried it on a 1,6GHz PowerMac G5.
1. Power on your PowerMac ;)
2. Get to Open Firmware with "Alt-Option-O-F" keys pressed
3. Insert openSUSE-NET-ppc CD by ejecting CD-ROM drive with command "eject
cd"
4. Boot into yaboot by entering "boot cd:,\suseboot\yaboot"
5. Choose your Installation-Type
>From there I was able to go through installation pre-configuration setup
(network, http-server) and YaST2 started. But it crashed when I tried to do
partitioning stuff.
Maybe someday I'll have the knowledge to be able to fix things for PPC...
Have fun!

Hi,
Just want to bring you good news:
We have now 5 out of 12 ppc64 build machines running KVM!!! Still in
testing, but so far it builds packages fine.
Status of the Factory:PowerPC is 32bit have about 3200 packages
succeeded, 122 failed and 64bit 2500 succeeded and 76 failed.
I've just sent 3 SRs to fix some of failed packages.
Most of the failed builds are easy to fix, don't be shy. Find a
failed's package devel project, branch it, fix it and submit it back
(simple formula)!
We're really close to open ppc64 builds back to the public.
Have fun,
Dinar
