Hi,
I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to
go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that
there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev"
and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0
length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this
could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have
installed a rootkit or some such ?
I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange.
Cheers
Damir

Hi everybody,
Yesterday I tried to install SuSE 7.3 on a IBM RS600 B50
(model 7046, the one without video adapter), I booted from
the console using the procedure and the images described
at the url :
http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/ubrueck_floppyinstall.html
the boot process works perfectly (from the OF prompt I used the
line boot floppy:,zimage root=/dev/fd0 load_ramdisk=1
console=ttyS0,9600 fake_initrd) except for one thing :
when I try to load the network card module I get an error
saying that is impossible to load the module lance32 ; my machine
has 2 ADM PCNET ethernet adpter, so the driver should be
the right one (I used it on SuSE ppc 7.0) , I also tried to
remove one of the adapters (the one on PCI BUS) but unfortunately
nothing changed. I tried also the autoprobing, but it didn't load
the network module.
Is there something that I'm missing ? could you suggest me something ?
thanks in advance
M.

Can any one help?
I have been given a Powerbook 1400 and really want to put SuSE 7.3 PPC on
it!
The only problem is how!
Their website said the model isn't supported, but I have been to MKLinux and
it says their version supports it but not the EXT SCSI. Is this the case
with SuSE?
Has anyone had any experience in doing this or encountered any problems.
I have spoken to them and they suggested that I contact you guys/galls and
see if you are able to help.
TIA,
Andy
Hi
I have been reading about this new sendmail exploit and was wondering if
there is a patch for the sendmail that comes with Suse? One of my mates
has Mandrake Linux (x86) and the mandrake site had an rpm to patch
sendmail with. I havent seen anything (to my knowledge) on the suse site?
Do I need to worry?
Cheers

Hello,
I'm trying to install SLES 8.0 on a PowerMac G4. I have the Macintosh HD
and a clean IDE installed. When I boot from the CD and start the
installation process, it says that no hard drives are found. Yet, if I
boot the Mac OSX both hard drives are seen. How do I get the IDE drives to
be recognized by the installation code?
Thanks,
Jim
Hi !
I'm trying to setup XFree86 4.1.0 of SuSE 7.3 PPC with
a Permedia 2 graphic card. The computer is a PowerStack II
(PReP with OpenFirmware) with a 300 MHz 604e.
There is another board (CL5446) used for console and the
Permedia 2 is the second board. The same config runs fine
with a Matrox Millenium and the mga driver (1024x768 16bpp).
The problem seems to be missing symbols in the glint driver,
and/or PCI related :
(WW) xf86ReadPciBIOS: Unsupported on this platform.
Symbol xf86DestroyI2CDevRec from module
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/glint_drv.o is unresolved!
Symbol xf86DestroyI2CDevRec from module
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/glint_drv.o is unresolved!
Symbol xf86SetDDCproperties from module
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/glint_drv.o is unresolved!
Full details and config files : http://www.gloups.net/permedia2/
I have not tried with XFree86 4.2.0 as it breaks many
dependencies among installed packages (sax2 and saxtools among others).
If anybody has info about this problem, thanks in advance,
Gilles Menigot
