Bad blocks on a ReiserFS volume. How to retrieve files?

I have a large hard-disk (120 GB) on which some blocks went bad. Now, it cannot be mounted. Attached is what debugreiserfs says. What can I do; I'm newbie to reiserfs architecture. I thought that ReiserFS keeps copies of the superblock or something, like ext2/3 does. reiserfsck says "error occured looks like hardware problem. bread cannot read block 13271040". That's the actual number it displays. PS I have asked the same question on the reiserfs-list, but it's extremely low traffic. Maybe someone here knows more. Linux and KDE Tutorial?

Hi Folks, One of my PM's wanted an account on a server he's paying me to manage, so I set it up with xrdp so he can connect from his Windows desktop. I configured it to run Plasma and KDE. Now he's asking for a tutorial on KDE, and probably Linux in general. Does anyone have any recommendations for a newbee to Linux? He's heavily steeped in the Way of Windows, I'm afraid. US Mirror Slowness Breaks TW dup Updates

Devs, I know we have discussed US mirror slowness before, but just attempting a zypper dup on TW failed because packages were no longer available due to the time it took for the download to take place. It took well over 1 hour to download update packages. Most downloading between 25KiB/s and 60KiB/s on a 300MB/s connection. [a/r/i/...? shows all options] (a): This caused the whole dup transaction to fail. Running a 2nd time picked up the new versions of the packages and allowed the update to complete -- but that should never be required. Also, there seems like there is some algorithm in place that throttles download speed. Now this could just be the way it looked, but the algorithm appears to work something like: rpm-size < 5MiB => slow lane (20KiB/s to 100KiB/s) rpm-size > 5Mib => fast lane (~ 100KiB/s to 1MiB/s) Given the slowness of the US mirrors, if this is happening, any throttling needs to be removed. Also, I've had to use Patrick Shannahan's nvidia repo to be able to update to the 6.10 kernel using the G04 driver (thank you Patrick!). But we are nearly a month after the 6.10 kernel was released, so I would expect openSUSE NVidia repo to have updated drivers by now. The patch has been available for a month. Anyway, full TW dup did ultimately work, but the is room for improvement with the US mirrors. TW is up, fully functional on the 6.10 kernel and all is working well. dracut is damned amazing! It would also be nice to know when packages for gcc-14 will be available. I know that is a complete rebuild of the base for TW, so I suspect it is somewhere in the ringed build system in some testing corner. Just curious. There are many c++23 features not fully implemented in gcc-13. The TW rolling-release is rolling right along. Good Job! -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Secure boot on raspberry pi

Hi Has anyone set up secure boot on Raspberry pi (CM4)? According to https://github.com/raspberrypi/usbboot#secure-boot, a boot.img file needs to be created which contains the kernel, ramdisk, overlays, start.elf fixup.dat, etc files, which is signed and you then program the eeprom to only boot from that signature. There is buildroot here (https://github.com/raspberrypi/buildroot/blob/raspberrypi-signed-boot/READM…) which does build the boot.img file, but this will probably not work for opensuse since it uses the kernel and ramdisk, etc from raspberry pi os. Is there any guide for openSUSE on how to build a boot.img file for sue with secure boot on the rpi? Jonas

Is this man8 link from createrepo to createrepo_c correct?

Devs, Installed createrepo_c on TW and it provides a link for the old name "createrepo" man page to the new "createrepo_c" man page -- but it doesn't work. The contents of the createrepo.8.gz link are: $ zcat /usr/share/man/man8/createrepo.8.gz .so man8/createrepo\_c.8 But attempting to access the man page through "createrepo" fails, e.g. $ man createrepo man: can't resolve man8/createrepo\_c.8 No manual entry for createrepo Possibly, man page is not installed, try online at: https://manpages.opensuse.org/createrepo Is the content of the file correct? -- David C. I am looking for the sources for the libncurses6-32bit-6.1-150000.5.24.1.x86_64 rpm. Is it the built from the normal ncurses src? I have a 3rd party software package that is looking for symbols that don't seem to be there. So I thought I would build it from src. But what source? ./util/tbosdt: /lib/libncursesw.so.6: version `NCURSESW6_5.3.20021019' not found (required by ./util/tbosdt) ./util/tbosdt: /lib/libncursesw.so.6: version `NCURSESW6_5.1.20000708' not found (required by ./util/tbosdt) Thanks Mark

Screen Energy Saving time Leap 15.6 KDE

I have the screen energy saving timeout set to 15 minutes, but my screen shuts down after 5. Is there something else I should set. I have rebooted after changing the setting to ensure it would work. tnx jk
