Leap 15.6 and amdgpu-pro ???

Hi, Presently I use amdgpu-pro-23.40.2_SLES_15_sp_5 in Leap 15.5. I would like to upgrade from Leap 15.5 to Leap 15.6, but I wonder whether the current amdgpu-pro driver 24.10.3 for SLED/SLES 15 SP 5, release date 6/19/2024 works in Leap 15.6. Any information on that? cu Peter

As david ranklin wrote on this list in the morning with his whireless network, also here after a update a couple of minutes ago, one on of my machines (others i have not updated) from 240822 or 240823 (sorry, could not check, because netzwork is gone) my wicked network is gone. have not investigated up to now, i am not in front of that machine, so please take care ! simoN -- www.becherer.de

Packman horribly slow from US, 16.0KiB/s - that's 1/2 of 33.6 baud modem dial-up speed....

Devs, Not sure if packman is just out of bandwidth or what the issue is, but TW updates take forever, e.g. Retrieving: librist4-0.2.7-1699.1.pm.25.x86_64.rpm ....................................<86%>=======[| (16.0 KiB/s)] That is 1/2 of what a 33.6 dial-up modem will do over an old land-line. (it used to take Friday - Sunday to download SUSE over a modem - and pray a disconnect didn't occur :) Are there any additional resources that may help this situation? I think it is pulling from gwdg.de, but even then the pipe should be bigger than 16.0 KiB/s. Ideas? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Tumbleweed - dracut update on dup tonight failed to start WiFi on reboot?

Devs, Just did a zypper dup on Tumbleweed after removing the openSUSE-repo-xxx packages. openSUSE repos have much improved download speed ~1-5MB/s compare to the less than 100KB/s earlier. Packman still crawls at ~100KB/s, but that's just packman in the US. But dracut was updated, and during reboot I noticed a couple new errors splashed to the screen - too quick to read what they were, but when the desktop started -- it was clear, my WiFi connection was dead. Checking 'ip' it was dead. Going into Yast, the configuration was fine and simply clicking "edit" on my wireless connection and "next", "next", "Accept" brought the wireless connection up without problem. What to check to find the earlier errors and determine why, for the first time since Tumbleweed install, wireless failed to start on boot? Seems likely to be related to dracut or one of the libraries that was updated. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

drkonqi-coredump-launcher

I see a message like this in my system journal: Aug 28 08:44:12 acme drkonqi-coredump-launcher[4357]: Authorization required, but no authorization protocol specified It happens quite often (every couple minutes), and when it does, it repeats many many times. It happens when I am not doing anything. So it seems not to be related to my activity. Or at least not directly. I do not know when this started. I just noticed it today because I saw that systemd-journald is taking > 25% CPU time. And rsyslogd is also taking lots of time. That seems wrong. How can I find out what is triggering it? I tried drkonqi-coredump-gui, but it says "No crashes match the search". I don't really need the core dumps. Can this be disabled? I see references (Google) to services with related names (drkonqi-coredump*). But I do not see them on my system. I'm running Leap. It's not the most recent: 20230908. I will be doing an update at some time soon. -- Roger Oberholtzer

WDE does not work with a Swedish laptop during setup and install. After installing you have to use an english character layout on a swedish character layout. It needs to be fixed. OpenSUSE needs to use the character layout of the keyboard being used for encryption purposes like debian and fedora. Or you need an english laptop.

What are packages openSUSE-repos-MicroOS and openSUSE-repos-MicroOS-NVIDIA?

Devs, Recently there have been posts about removing openSUSE-repos-XXX to improve mirror performance and allow listing additional mirrors in the baseurl= option. What are these packages and why or why not to remove them? Why can't I just add the nvidia repo as a normal repo as we have always done? What is the benefit of these -repo packages? -- David C. Hi, up to date tumbleweed: i have a small opensuse without graphic, logging into tty1 there was a very old tumbleweed (3-4 years old, before updating this machine) behavior changed: when i use heavy load to the processor (here i pbzip2 a whole disk) i got on screen the messages (and similar messages): [1580-1618057] [ C6] perf: interrupt took to long (2503>2500), lowering kernel.perf.event_max_sample_rate to 798000 when i remember correct, the message itself is nothing to care about. BUT why is this message not (only) written inside a log file? why did this interrupt my screen output? is there something i have to configure, or why is this now on screen. on the old system it was not on screen. and i think it should not be there interrupting the output (as example if working with mc everything will be messed up) any hints? or should i open a bug report? simoN -- www.becherer.de
