Tumbleweed - Print help from Gtk apps? Is /etc/printcap still used? What print config does Gtk want?

All, Linux printing has always just worked for my Laserjets. I have a remote cups server that handles sending print jobs to an attached printer. This has been a great setup. In 15.4, I had no problem printing from any app, Gtk, Qt/KDE, command-line, it all worked. In Tumbleweed, I copied my /etc/printcap file from 15.4, e.g. $ cat /etc/printcap # This file was automatically generated by cupsd(8) from the # /etc/cups/printers.conf file. KDE3 kprinter is fine printing to the LaserJet, but Gtk apps (LibreOffice, Firefox) cannot print. The lpq command is happy with the print queue: # lpq LaserJet is ready no entries But attempting to print from LibreOffice throws the error: "Could not start printer. Please check your printer configuration." What? I've just checked it all, it's good, why won't Libre of Firefox (Gtk apps) print? What configuration is it telling me to check? What is messing with my name resolution

Hi I have now run into at situation with some OpenSUSE machines on a friends network. They are on a separate LAN and a pfSense manages firewalling, dhcp and dns. Except that we have had one problem after another with the build in resolver. So I thought 🤔 how hard can it be to run your own resolver? I spun up another OpenSUSE with dnsmasq. I am new to dnsmasq but I don't think that's the problem. Now I can perform a dig command from another machine to my new resolver and get a answer immediately: localadm@sshgw:~> time dig @192.168.80.4 -x 192.168.80.8 +short sshgw.tier1.internal. real 0m0,033s .. localadm@sshgw:~> time dig @192.168.80.4 sshgw.tier1.internal. +short 192.168.80.8 real 0m0,033s No problem here, and I then went on to configure the networking on the other machines using yast and wicked in control. localadm@sshgw:~> cat /etc/resolv.conf # blabla search tier1.internal nameserver 192.168.80.4 localadm@sshgw:~> grep host /etc/nsswitch.conf hosts: files mdns_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns But when I test using using the host command: localadm@sshgw:~> host sshgw.tier1.internal. sshgw.tier1.internal has address 192.168.80.8 ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached It responds immediately with the correct answer, but then hangs a while before the timeout lines... No grub after updating to 15.6

I updated a 15.5 box to 15.6 via the "zypper dup" method referenced at https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade. #init 3 #sed -i 's/15.5/${releasever}/g' /etc/zypp/repos.d/*.repo #zypper --releasever=15.6 refresh #zypper --releasever=15.6 dup No errors. Then rebooted. It hangs at grub: GRUB loading. Welcome to GRUB! error: ../../grub=core/kern/dl.c:380:symbol 'grub_verify_string" not found. Unable to clone 2 terminals

Hi, This might be an nVidia issue, but I am suspicious that it may have something to do with OpenSuSE 15.4 x86. I am running the KDE desktop with Plasma. I have two monitors that I want to be clones and show exactly the same display on both monitors. I have fiddled a LOT with the nVidia X Server Settings app but simply no joy. At this time I have the nVidia app configured, so that the X server display configuration is showing the two monitors, a Westinghouse and a Samsung monitor positioned on top of each (both at pos 0,0) and set with the same resolution of 1920 x 1080. What is happening is that the Samsung shows an extended portion of a desktop with the background image and desktop icons placed there. The Westinghouse shows a desktop with no background image and is where the kicker bar and all my window shells are showing up. The only thing that can interact with these two desktops is the mouse cursor. I can move the mouse cursor from one monitor's desktop to the other monitors desktop, but nothing else. The reason I am suspicious of OpenSuSE or perhaps KDE, is that in the Systems Settings -> Display and Monitor -> Display Configuration, ONLY the Westinghouse monitor is shown and is configurable. There is nothing shown for the Samsung monitor. So apparently nVidia's X Server tool is capable of seeing both monitors and allowing each of them to be configured, the KDE Systems Settings tool cannot see the Samsung terminal. Seems wrong to me! Hi, recently I received a HP Pavilion DV6 laptop. Installed openSUSE Tumbleweed 20240801 on the machine. I can play an audio CD with VLC. Purging unneeded packages and dependencies:

Hi, I am wondering about how I should best go about purging packages and possibly dependencies along with what is displayed after passing 'zypper pa --unneeded'. I can use 'zypper remove --clean-deps' to remove the package along with it's uneeded dependencies or set 'solver.cleandepsOnRemove = true' in '/etc/zypp/zypp.conf'. Is it safe to set solver to clean up the dependencies on package removal in '/etc/zypp/zypp.conf' ? Can you tell me why it may be a bad idea to do this? I recently used 'zypper rm packagenames' to remove packages that 'zypper pa --unneeded' displayed on a machine without removing any dependent packages. I am working with another machine now and when I passed 'zypper pa --unneeded' the list is once again quite extensive > https://paste.opensuse.org/pastes/2824e60628ce What do you recommend with this situation. Are there negative impacts waiting for the machines user/s or operating system (Tumbleweed) if all the packages shown in the susepaste are purged? Thanks

mouse pointer doesn't change on links in firefox 128.0esr

Hello:This occurs in openSUSE 15.5. I installed firefox 128.0esr. -------The mouse pointer doesn't change to a hand on hovering links in firefox 128 esr.-------I use the default X windows mouse theme (by setting no theme in KDE control center).-------I use KDE3 desktop.-------The mouse works normally with previous firefox 115 esr.-------What is the cause, and how could I fix?-------Thanks,-------Istvan-------ps: The -------s are for separating lines.

Hi! Is there any simple way of fixing `SBAT self-check failed: Security Policy Violation` on Tumbleweed? I'm feeling lazy enough to wait a few more months with SecureBoot off to get an updated `shim` which supports the delete command, if nothing simpler exists. L13 Yoga: can't resume from suspend (s2idle) unless I plug AC cable

Hi! After being suspended for a while (30 min?) my laptop gets so energy efficient it doesn't wake up when opening the lid or pressing power button. Plugging the AC cable wakes it up enough pressing ESC at the same time wakes the laptop up. Any ideas on how can I fix this? OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed, clean install Last time this worked: before updating the BIOS for the last time. Currently testing: enabling all wakeup sources from /proc/acpi/wakeups to workaround it.
