Leap 15.6 Building kernel module

I am trying to build a kernel module out of the kernel source tree. I am trying this on leap 15.6 I am pretty sure that the module in question supports this. I am guessing that I am missing some additional package. I thought that kernel-devel had all the required header files. But I guess it's looking for how the kernel was configured. Is that info in a package I have missed? The module I am after is a Peak systems CANbus driver. It is supposed to be part of the kernel. I don't recall having to do this with earlier Leap releases. The driver seems not to be enabled anymore. Odd as it is a commonly used CANBus interface. -- Roger Oberholtzer

Tumbleweed - error enabling freshclam?

All, I went to start freshclam.service as stated in https://en.opensuse.org/ClamAV and I received the following error: # 02:01 wizard:.../cnf/gtk4/themes] # sc enable freshclam The unit files have no installation config (WantedBy=, RequiredBy=, UpheldBy=, Also=, or Alias= settings in the [Install] section, and DefaultInstance= for template units). This means they are not meant to be enabled or disabled using systemctl. Possible reasons for having these kinds of units are: • A unit may be statically enabled by being symlinked from another unit's .wants/, .requires/, or .upholds/ directory. • A unit's purpose may be to act as a helper for some other unit which has a requirement dependency on it. • A unit may be started when needed via activation (socket, path, timer, D-Bus, udev, scripted systemctl call, ...). • In case of template units, the unit is meant to be enabled with some instance name specified. freshclam.timer did enable properly. Do we not need to enable freshclam anymore? If so, is the wiki out of date? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Hello, I like to use avidemux3 to cut video in smaller pieces. Alas since I don't know when, avidemux do not work anymore I run Tumbleweed, just updated. Tumbleweed - is ~/.xprofile sourced? It is in 15.4, but it doesn't appear to be in TW?

Devs, Strange observation. I configure the console bell and typematic rate in ~/.xprofile. It was sourced and worked fine on 15.4, but it doesn't seem to be sourced on TW. If it's not, what changed and where would I set it to be sourced again? In TW there is no /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc, just xinitrc.common and no /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession. What is the recommended way or where should I put custom xset ... commands to run on desktop start? Should we just create a custom /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc with something like: #!/bin/sh [ -f /etc/xprofile ] && . /etc/xprofile [ -f ~/.xprofile ] && . ~/.xprofile ? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Linux-6.10.patch for Nvidia-390xx

All, Arch has 6.10 out and I had to cobble together a patch for the nvidia-390 driver from the 535 driver patch. I've placed it at https://paste.opensuse.org/pastes/02624819560b I have confirmed it works via dkms build. The new 6.10 kernel and GTX 560 are happily serving files and graphics again. You may need to adjust depending on your patch order. keepassxc cannot open if qt5ct used and /usr/bin/keepassxc ignored under Troubleshooting tab?

All, I installed qt5ct to help theme the qt5 apps I have. Upon install it uses a default Fusion theme with huge fonts. The made keepassxc look really bad (think 14pt Arial equivalent on a laptop). So I reduced the font and set a dark theme -- and keepassxc looks okay, but not as good as its default styling look. One particular problem is the alternating-row coloring have a lot of contrast making folders/groups with lots of entries hard to read. qt5ct has a Troubleshooting tab (last one) where you can add programs to exclude from the qt5 styling (which should be just what I want, let keepassxc use its own styling) However, after I told qt5ct to exclude/ignore /usr/bin/keepassxc and tried to start keepassxc again, the window decoration flashes for a moment and then the keepassxc crashes (not good). Removing /usr/bin/keepassxc from the ignored app list allows it to start again, but themed per qt5ct. Has anyone else had success ignoring apps in qt5ct? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

All, Just a note on Tbird. 128 is released and it will become the new ESR. Like firefox 128, it will update your thunderbird profile on start and modify it so it cannot be opened by 115 any longer. Other than possibly seeing the version number fly by during update -- there is no notice to you that irreversible modifications will take place on next thunderbird start. 115 will remain supported until October with 3 more releases planned -- if you would like to let the new 128 get a bit of broader testing before taking the plunge. Thunderbird 128 also comes with a new UI called ("nebula"). I'm always a bit hesitant with new UIs - but at least The Register notes there are things to like about it. Long story short, if you are on TW or SlowRoll, expect this to show up shortly. If you want to continue with 115 while the initial bugs are worked out, you need to lock thunderbird and do explicit updates specifying the version. If you are on Leap, also keep an eye out, mid-release major version changes for tbird and firefox are not uncommon. INSURANCE - backup your 115 profile BEFORE the update so you preserve the option of going back if you need to. I liked the 115 UI ("supernova"), and since the 128 UI also includes a "compact" mode -- I suspect it will be good as well (of course with a few gripes -- just to keep them honest...) -- David C. Screen doesn't shut off when radio site on Desktop 2, but does when on Dt 1

Hi, it's not very important, but a bit annoying, so maybe somebody knows if I can change this behavior: I work on Desktop 1. On Desktop 2 a web radio stream runs in a seamonkey window. The desktop does *not* shut off after a time of inactivity (showing login screen, and a bit later getting black). When I have this radio window on Desktop 1, the screen shuts off as it should. What makes the difference whether the stream window is on Desktop 1 or 2? This in KDE 5.27.9, OS 15.5 Any idea? It doesn't matter if the stream window is active(visible) on the appropriate desktop or minimized: Screen lock is prevented when it's on Desktop 2, but not, when it's on Desktop 1. How do I remap pg-up/pg-dn to be the same as 'f' and 'b' in man viewer?
