Sorry SuSE: 9.1 is Waste of time and money!

I am sorry to conclude that my upgrade from SuSE 9.0 Pro to 9.1 Pro has been waste of time and money for me, so far. The same I have to say about the free SuSE "Installation support". The reason is that my SuSE 9.1 installation only detects 1 of my 3 SCSCI devices (as I wrote in another subject on this forum: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2004-May/3254.html) Yamaha 4416S CDRW recorder detected HP DVD Writer 100i NOT detected Epson 1640SU scanner NOT detected It's rather stupid. I have installed 9.1 using the DVD disk just in the HP DVD drive, but after the installation of 9.1, the KDE/Konqueror /media/recorder cannot access it and YaST2 cannot install additional software from it. Only one "Cdrecorder" is found in My computer and that is the Yamaha 4416 drive, which the KDE/Konqueror file manager assign as /media/recorder11. I am sure 9.1 is the reason, as I hadn't this problems with 9.0. I have tried both an update and two several new installation of 9.1. Neither SJDS nor Windows on the same multiboot PC have problems to detect these devices. In my opinion SuSE should therefore debug 9.1 better and longer, and not leave the problems to the customers. I see SuSE notes on their web saying that they know SCSI scanners are not detected in 9.1. But regarding my HP DVD writer problem, the SuSE support (as usual) don't take the responsibility and argue that this problem (a combination of IDE disk and SCSI devices) isn't included in their free installation support! This sounds remarkable, and I have never had a modern PC of so simple model or configuration that it has fitted the limited rules for the free installation support. Terje J. Hanssen

[SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. chromium and h.264 codec in 15.5

Hi, I'm a little confused about the h.264 codec and chromium in 15.5. I can play the video from https://html5videoplayer.net/html5video/mp4-h-264-video-test/ in both chromium-119.0.6045.199-bp155.1917.5.x86_64 and firefox-esr-115.6.0-lp155.1.1.x86_64. But when I try to join a webex meeting with chromium, it tells me "Video and shared content not supported by browser settings Activate the H.264 video codec in your browser settings so people can see your video and shared content and you can see other videos and shared content." Firefox works fine. chromium also says "not supported" on https://mozilla.github.io/webrtc-landing/pc_test_no_h264.html while Firefox says "supported". I've installed chromium-ffmpeg-extra from packman and added rpms from http://codecs.opensuse.org/openh264/openSUSE_Leap/x86_64/ but it doesn't change anything. cups 2 printersetup for one printer

Hi, since years i use 2 (or more) printer setups in cups to use one printer. -> for different "standard" settings lets say its a color printer, but to save money often i like to print black and white. so i define a printer with the a ppd file and same printer adress twice, one with color settings one with settings black and white. so i have not to click and search all the printer settings to set up this 2 main settings. instead if i like to print color, i use the "color printer, or the foto-setting-printer or the black-and-white printer. since years i have used this with different printers "hp" and "qms" was working. since about a year i own a "sharp mx3060" i do not know if cups has changed anything or if its the printer. but it did not work any more. i have 2 stored ppd's inside etc/cups/ppd/... Leap-15.5 ans firefox issue

After upgrading from 15.4 to 15.5 I get Firefox popup windows that look like McAfee messages. Like "Windows infected (18) viruses. Scan and remove with McAfee?" and "(18) viruses detected. Remove now?" I have no McAfee software installed. What is going on? Thanks Mark

as stop job is running of session 3 for user....

Hi, since a couple of weeks always when i try to shutdown my tumbleweed (not actual updated, so an update is not the case of the problem) a delay for the shutdown: "a stop job is running for session 3 of user simon" i am user "simon" and i have before closed kde regularly with the shut down option and nothing left open. its a "normal" desktop kde system, with connections to and from it, inside the lan over nfs and sometimes over ssh. but the most times 3 tumbleweed computers who are running inside this lan who have theoretically access, i and my wife are the operators, so nobody should have "logged in" when i shut down. from outside the internet there should be nothing open to come in to the lan. how could i investigate what is here "session3" and still running? thanks, simoN -- www.becherer.de

Problems with Leap 15.5 KDE

In addition to the "shaking" video problem I mentioned earlier, there is another severe problem. After 2 or 3 days, my desktop will lock up solid and the only way out is to kill the power. It is only the desktop that locks up, as I can still use SSH to connect and do stuff. After a few lockups, I went back to 15.4 and both these issues stopped. I then returned to 15.5 a few days ago and both problems returned. If there is no resolution soon, I will be forced to return to 15.4 again. Since that hardware module is no longer in Yast, I can't use it to provide hardware info, so I can only read from the box. The motherboard is a Gigabyte H77M-D3M with an i7 CPU.

Hi, I am receiving this message when passing:journalctl -b -1 -r Hint: You are currently not seeing messages from other users and the system. Users in the 'systemd-journal' group can see all messages. Pass -q to turn off this notice. The issue is that I am in the "systemd-journal" group. Thinkcentre-M57p:/usr/bin> groups paul paul : paul audio cdrom systemd-journal Thinkcentre-M57p:/usr/bin> What is going on here? What am I doing wrong and not understanding about this "Hint" above? Ok, powercycling fixed the issue. Do you recommend adding admin user to "systemd-journal" group typically?

How to change Apache's DocumentRoot

Is there a way to change Apache's DocumentRoot? In /etc/apache2/default-server.conf there is this line: DocumentRoot "/srv/www/htdocs" I changed it to another directory and restarted Apache. systemctl restart apache2 But http://localhost shows this text: Access forbidden! You don't have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected. But there IS an index document in the new directory and nothing is read-protected. What has to be done more than this?
