[opensuse] Command line pdf reader - zathura - vi like interface - pretty amazing!

All, This is one of those stray tips e-mail for anybody who spends time on the command line and every wanted a pretty amazing command line pdf reader. zathura is it, and it is a vi like interface that is pretty damn amazing. I stumbled across it looking into pdftohtml and somehow found a link to zathura. For opensuse it is in the X11 Utilities repo: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Utilities/ Just # zypper in zathura zathura-plugin-pdf-poppler zathura-plugin-ps for both the pdf and ps reader (you can also choose mupdf instead of poppler) The entire install is ~600K (not even 1M). pdf rendering is great. You can tweak the config by adding 'set' commands to ~/.config/zathura/zathurarc (none by default). I just added: set font "monospace normal 8" to drop the vi-style command line font from default 9 to 8pt. Full man pages provided with 'man zathurarc' for the config options. I don't pass along many stray tips, but after using Linux for so many years and never running across zathura before -- I'll be many are in the same boat. [opensuse] Two graphic cards, how to get them to work?

Hi, Leap 15.0 I installed a second graphic card in my system and plugged my second monitor in the new card. I followed https://en.opensuse.org/ATI as good as possible but I kind of don't get the second card to do anything. Here's my cards: lspci -nn | grep VGA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation GF119 [GeForce GT 610] [10de:104a] (rev a1) 03:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Tahiti PRO [Radeon HD 7950/8950 OEM / R9 280] [1002:679a] The NVIDIA card was first is still running fine. I installed xf86-video-amdgpu and rebooted the computer. Now here: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:AMDGPU in the Hybrid section is information that might be the key for my problem. It says that the boot loader might need parameters. Here's the output of: xrandr --listproviders Providers: number : 2 Provider 0: id: 0x31e; cap: 0x1 (Source Output); crtcs: 2; outputs: 4; associated providers: 0; name: NVIDIA-0 output DVI-I-0 output VGA-0 output DVI-I-1 output HDMI-0 Provider 1: id: 0x367; cap: 0xf (Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload, Sink Offload); crtcs: 6; outputs: 4; associated providers: 0; name: modesetting output 0x363 output 0x364 output 0x365 output 0x366 It looks like the two cards are being discovered but only the NVIDIA card is actually active. According to these instructions I might have to add something like amdgpu.si_support=1 to the bootloader settings. [opensuse] What plays a .3gp video file from a phone?

All, I don't mess with video often, but I have a video I have received from a client documenting a date and time for a custody/visitation pickup and it is in .3gp format. VLC claims it doesn't have h264 (part 10) and mp4a codecs. VLC is from videolan, not packman. Do I need to change repos? If so, how do I switch all to packman? -- David C. If you are trying > to mount the w10 partition rw, you can use: mount -t ntfs /dev/sda4 -o > rw <filesystem mount point> > > --dg An afterthought fwiw . . . imo writing to the Windows "C: Drive" is best avoided if possible - Windows has often been finicky about that. Assuming you have ample storage on your new machine, you might consider creating a separate ntfs rw partition for data, and leave the C: partition ro or don't mount it at all unless absolutely necessary. And btw there is a feature in windows that permits redirecting the default data folders (Documents, Downloads, etc.) to a different tree and (if desired) on another partition. All, I've used susepaste for a while and have had no issues. Today it is: Paste failed :-( Anyone else seeing this? [opensuse] scanner, one more time--success!

Downloaded the Epson scanner package for V300 scanner: iscan-gt-f720-bundle-2.30.4.x64.rpm and followed the directions for installing it, using the install.sh package. That worked out well, for the Epson WP-4530 all-in-one and it accesses the V300, but something is wrong with the V300 and it only produces a black rectangular blob. I have to see if there is a maintenance manual for that, since I want to be able to print from Ektachrome slides. Anyway, XSane now works as it should, and finds both scanners. In the meantime, I also bought Vue-Scan, but it doesn't like to let me fill out the 3-element registration. I guess that's money wasted.
