Hi All, For those of you who don't know me my name is Simon Lees and I am announcing my intention to run for the board. About me: As you can guess from my email address I now work for SUSE, I have done so for 2 years but I have been involved in the openSUSE community for around 7 years, mostly packaging the enlightenment desktop and a few other things. I am also part of the factory review team and have contributed to a bunch of other areas including patterns etc. Vision for the project: The reasons I started using openSUSE were 1. It treated all software particularly desktops equally, 2. The reasons I started contributing to openSUSE 7ish years back were 1. basically any contribution is welcome and 2. contributing is easy. I don't have any radical new plans for the vision of the project I think its in a really good place, mostly I just want to keep helping to make the reasons I joined the project reasons for other people to join and keep working on the project. Why Vote for me: * When I see something that needs fixing i'll probably just go and fix it. * I have decent people skills and am reasonably good at helping people work through problems. * I have a good technical understanding of may parts of the project. I might have a bit more to say in coming weeks, but if you have questions feel free to bug me via email or as simotek on the freenode irc network. [opensuse] tmpfiles.d question

Hi list, any experts for tmpfiles.d around? I have a laptop with intel ME that has a serial port. It is detected by linux (serial8250), but doesn't work because ME is disabled. Bad thing is, anything trying to access it runs into a 30s timeout :(( So I try to remove access to it using tmpfiles.d: woodstock:~ # cat /etc/tmpfiles.d/block_AMT_ttyS0.conf #Type Path Mode UID GID Age Argument z /dev/ttyS0 0600 - - - - However, after boot I still have woodstock:~ # l /dev/ttyS0 crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 4, 64 Mar 6 10:18 /dev/ttyS0 Is 'z' the wrong command? According to the manpage it should change modes of existing files/directories, and the serial module is loaded before systemd starts the tmpfiles scripts. [opensuse] Grubby fingers in the boot straps

I seem to have broken grub. Or maybe it broke itself. I have tried to re-install it a few times with yast2 bootloader, but it is failing with "no menuentry" or I think that's what it says, it vanishes quickly. Here is the history: I installed Manjaro on a partition, /dev/sda2. Opensuse grub detects this, but it does not boot properly because Manjaro likes its own grub. So I installed Manjaro grub on /dev/sda2, and then I chainloaded it successfully from Opensuse grub. I then tried to make a chainloader menu entry in /etc/40_custom, but that didn't work so I thought nothing more of it. But today when I booted the system, opensuse grub failed with an error, then went straight to Manjaro grub. I tried to remove anything I added to /etc/40_custom, and I tried to re-install grub as I said. I also ran grub2-script-check but it does not report errors. How do I re-install grub with the default configuration? Hi, have you been able to resolve your issue? I just stumbled upon your question as I need to install a new galera cluster. I found this guide [1] to migrate your database to Galera, but I didn't really go through the details. I just thought this could probably be of help for you. Considering the package question, I believe you need the 10.2.13 version of mariadb (so an upgrade) and additionally install mariadb-galera, you can find that in [2]. This creates a file in /etc/my.cnf.d/50-galera.cnf containing the required wsrep (and other) config options. The repo mentioned in [2] is not the official repo, I assume you could also use the official repo for leap-15 [3], it's the same version (10.2.13), but I don't know if that is an option and if this could lead to data inconsistencies or other problems. So be careful as I did not test it! Maybe someone with more experience can also shed some light on this. [opensuse] 'new' Ethernet device names

Leap 42.3 provides the traditional Ethernet device names, like eth0. I am one of the strange guys who actually liked the new names that were hardware dependent. What is the best way to get those names on Leap 42.3? I have seen suggestions of a kernel command line option, of udev rules, and I bet a bet others. [opensuse] getting rid of all kde, gnome, lxde, ... programs and libs?

Hi *, I have two machines running Leap 42.3. Both used to provide a graphical login for quite a long time, but they were turned into pure server machines, that don't need graphics any longer. What is the easiest way to get rid of all programs and libs belonging to kde, gnome, lxde, ...? I tried to uninstall the according patterns, but the list of packages to be uninstalled contains programs and libs that are vital for the system, too. Thx and bye. [opensuse] Permissions, systemd and automount

I am trying to use x-systemd.automount,noauto in /etc/fstab to set up automount of disks. For the most part it works fine. I am struggling with permissions. When the disk is, say, CIFS, I can add uid=roger to /etc/fstab and the files will belong to roger. This is because the file system itself does not have user ownership of individual files. Or at least the CISF driver makes it so. If I want this to work with ext4, this seems not to work as I would like. The problem is the top-level mount point. I do not seem to have any control over the permissions. So if a user inserts a disk, they cannot make any files in the top level of the disk. But that is what I need. When we were not using automount, the mount point's permissions were whatever the disk file had. They were not changed by the mount command. Autofs sets the permissions to rwx------. We really want to use autofs. If the disks are not inserted and they are in /etc/fstab, the system will not boot. Autofs solves this nicely. Any ideas on how to sort out permissions when systemd is managing autofs? I have googled, but all seems to discuss when you set up autofs yourself. I can do that. [opensuse] resize root drive

I am on working on my laptop (#2 below, a dell XPS). It has a 500gb SSD which is partitioned for dual boot windows and opensuse. My root partition is almost completely full, and I am wondering what I can do about it to make more space. I have 2 root drives, both 22.5G, for the purpose of when the time comes to upgrade, having the previous version backed up in order to be able to boot into my system if the upgrade fails, or I have some other kind of major failure. It has saved my back many times. So, I want to keep the 22.5G drives equally sized, and I don't want to reduce the "home" partition of 331.7G. I noticed that /dev/sda3 for windows is only using about 45G on it. Since I hardly ever use windows, I was thinking of trying to take 14G off of that drive, split it into 2 partitions, and somehow append those extra 7G to each of the root drives in order to give my root more room. Is that something that is even possible? Does anyone have better recommendations? Like splitting off some of the directories from my root drive that take up a lot of memory, and moving them to the new partitions, and then just symlinking to those partitions in order to continue running? I don't really know the best course of action here.
