[opensuse] Question re rsync backup and hard links

Hi, I just did a backup of my main laptop using rsync: rsync --archive --acls --xattrs --hard-links \ --sparse --stats --human-readable --checksum \ --link-dest=/mnt/backup/previous/home \ /mnt/home/ \ /mnt/backup/current/home The idea is that files that exist in the previous backup are hard-linked into the current backup, saving space. But how much did I save? How many files and how many bytes are hardlinks? Maybe the info is in the rsync output, but I do not see it clearly: > Number of files: 252,287 (reg: 237,101, dir: 14,772, link: 375, special: 39) > Number of created files: 29,678 (reg: 28,379, dir: 1,283, link: 16) > Number of deleted files: 0 > Number of regular files transferred: 32,447 > Total file size: 257.29G bytes > Total transferred file size: 16.85G bytes > Literal data: 16.85G bytes > Matched data: 0 bytes > File list size: 4.91M > File list generation time: 0.004 seconds > File list transfer time: 0.000 seconds > Total bytes sent: 16.87G > Total bytes received: 648.53K > > sent 16.87G bytes received 648.53K bytes 2.22M bytes/sec > total size is 257.29G speedup is 15.25 > > real 126m33.023s > user 27m19.699s > sys 10m16.830s Maybe the clue is total size 257G vs sent 16.8G I know that summing up all the files in the backup disk (XFS) they take 1105G (by mc), but "df -h" says the disk is 932G, 648G are used, and 248G are free, so indeed there is saved space. And after erasing the home backup (I did it twice, so I deleted one copy), which takes 245370M bytes, df reports: Legolas:~ # df -h /media/Erebor_2/ Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sdb1 932G 617G 315G 67% /media/Erebor_2 So one home backup uses 648-617 = 31GB, and about 214G are hard links. [opensuse] Adding existing encrypted partition in YaST after installation

Hey, the day before yesterday, I have finally managed to upgrade to Leap 15. The system works fine! My home partition is fully LUKS-encrypted and while installing Leap 15, YaST asked me to provide the passphrase. I did not provide it because I always install new versions in parallel and migrate the home directory later after having configured the system and tested it. After doing so, I wanted to add the encrypted home partition using YaST. However, I did not find any way to open the encrypted home. I am pretty sure that YaST of Leap 42.3 and before provided the possibility to do so. Could anyone confirm this? [opensuse] Leap 15 fails to boot after kernel update today

All, Last line is Mounted filesystem with ordered data mode Opts: null and the boot hangs. Any ideas? Note, booting prior kernel works just fine, so it is something specific to new -19 kernel that came out in the past day or two. This is running in virtualbox. All prior kernel updates have been just fine. This one completed fine, but as soon as it got to the point of invoking wayland, it just locks. Using Yast to remove the latest kernel solves the problem. Booting with the -16 kernel works great. -- David C. I tried to join a mailing list and received "No ReCAPTCHA response provided" message. How does one get Thunderbird, or Firefox to return the desired response? I assume it is Thunderbird, since it is a mailing list. Never hit this one before. [opensuse] Filesystem Hierachy - Correct Mount Location

Hi All, I have a single 1TB disk on a server at the moment mounted at root (/). I have run out of space so I have installed a 4TB hard disk along side the existing one. I will name this new disk media so it will be /mount-location/media I am trying to work out the correct location to mount this disk. It will contain data to be server to the network e.g. music and videos. So data will not change often. I though /mnt but that is apparently for temporarily mounted filesystems. perhaps either /var or /srv Where would best practice indicate I should mount this disk? [opensuse] orca ate my CPU and typing speed

Since updating the kernel earlier this week, my keyboard has been really slow. I mean I could type faster than the characters would appear onscreen. This happened everywhere, in web pages, in emacs, even at a shell prompt in a terminal window. So finally today I checked some things and found (using "top") that "orca" was using 100% of a CPU (this laptop has 8 CPUs). "orca" was first a child process of "gkrellm" the first time I looked in "ps"; but when I looked (again in "ps") just a couple minutes later, "orca" was a child process of some "de-dup" process. That wasn't the entire name of the "de-dup" process, but only what of it I can remember. So I killed the "orca" process. I haven't noticed anything changing in the functioning of my system... except that my keyboard is now back up to speed; the characters appear onscreen as I type them, as they should. So I can say, "it's fixed." But I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem. [opensuse] IPv6 RDNSS not working 15.0

I just tried an experiment by turning off the DHCP server on my firewall. This means that DNS info can only be obtained by RDNSS in the router advertisement. With OpenSUSE, while I get an address and domain name, I do not get a DNS server address. With the same computer, running Windows 10, I get a DNS server and host name lookup works fine. RDNSS also works on my Android tablet. Why not on OpenSUSE?
