I don't think it's the WiFi connection asking you for a root password. Rather, I am suggesting that NetworkManager may want your root password to be able to set up the connection. I have had NetworkManager ask me for my root password to configure VPN connections. [opensuse] howto change desktop preview size when mouse over icon (KDE plasma)?

Hello, Until 13.2 when hovering over an icon (for example of an image) on the desktop a preview appeared that showed that image in a quite larger size. Since 42.1 this preview image is even smaller than the icon itself and thus isn't really helpful... How can I change the size of the preview image shown when mouse is over the icon? [opensuse] xdvi showing white on white text, howto default text black?

All, Dabbling with latex and xdvi. Unfortunately the xdvi output is white-on-white. What setting controls default rendering? Try it: $ vim myfile.tex \documentclass{article} \begin{document} This is my \emph{first} document prepared in \LaTeX. \end{document} $ latex myfile.tex $ xdvi myfile.dvi If you see something without have to Options->Fonts Darker (about 20 times), what's the trick? I can use '-bg black' and set the xdvi background black and the text shows fine, but why should it default to while-on-white? kdvi renders fine (black text on white background), so it's just xdvi that is the problem on Leap 42.2. [opensuse] ata3 comreset failed after latest update

I did a bunch of updates (drm and udev besides others). Then I did reboot the system. I suddenly get sata3 comreset failed error 32. Is there any procedure I could run? Anybody else experiencing the problem? I have smart running on the system that did not warn about any malfunction. This morning when I went to patch, there were hundreds of similar messages from imagemagik patches. I told it to proceed, and things seemed to work ok after rebooting, but hopefully an issue doesn't crop up down the road. Is there any official guidance on how to handle stuff like this? Is allowing them to be overwritten the normal route to take? [opensuse] .h.in header files for mysql

I am not sure if I should ask these questions here or on the developers mail list, but will start here and will move this over to the other mail list if told that it would be more appropriate. (I don't want to bother the developers with beginner's questions) I am attempting to build Bacula (a backup server) from source code and in order to do so, the build configuration for Bacula requires that I give it the path to the source code files for mysql. (or in the case of openSuSE mariadb) I figured out that I could use zypper si mariadb to fetch the source code from the openSuSE repositories. (for some reason YaST is unable to fetch source code packages, which I posted and earlier query about, so I am not sure if this was the proper way to fetch and install the source code for a package, please read on before responding to this comment.) This installed a gzipped tar file for the source directories under /usr/src/packages/SOURCES and I expanded this tarball in that same location - /usr/src/packages/SOURCES/mariadb-10.0.31 I then configured the build configuration file for Bacula to use that path for the mysql source files and ran into a snag when I tried to build Bacula. When it started to compile stuff from mysql this is what happened - ... previous output from make deleted... Compiling mysql.c In file included from mysql.c:39:0: /usr/src/packages/SOURCES/mariadb-10.0.31/include/mysql.h:72:27: fatal error: mysql_version.h: No such file or directory #include "mysql_version.h" ^ compilation terminated. When I examined the include directory to see if mysql_version.h is there I found that it sort of is, there is a mysql_version.h.in It has been awhile since I have done C/C++ programming but I vaguely recall that a .h.in file is some sort of trick that a make file uses to dynamically expand these files into a proper .h file, depending upon environmental conditions. So my first question is this, am I going to have to build mariadb/mysql first in order to get the proper source files set up for my own system? (or would YaST, if it was working properly, have fetched the source files in the proper configuration for my system? I suspect not....) If I have to build mariadb as well, then this rabbit hole is starting to get really deep! I tried to read/grok the documentation I found at - https://www.suse.com/documentation/opensuse103/opensuse103_reference/data/s… and https://www.suse.com/documentation/opensuse103/opensuse103_reference/data/s… about how to build from source code, but I think the author was targeting an audience that has the same deep understanding of the build processes that he has. I admit that does not include me! I don't understand, for example what the "various stages of a build process" are, what the difference is between rpmbuild and build, what a "package tree" is and how to set one up on an NFS mount or on a DVD. Please bear with me, I am really struggling here, not having done this before, and having a lot of difficulties trying to Google and track down what all this means. Nor are the man pages enlightening me. So can someone tell me, in elegant simple to understand steps, what I have to do exactly in order to build the mariadb/mysql source code, not into executable binaries necessarily, but into the source code that Bacula will be happy to work with? [opensuse] Missing "middle" of ebay pages in Firefox

I'm running FF 55.0.1 64-bit under opensuse 42.2. This happens with a number of kernels. The middle, the descriptive, illustrative part of the ebay pages is missing. It happens wherever I'm logged in or not for all pages. The framing, the top, the pricing, and the scrollable alternative at the bottom are visible. That tabs for 'description' and 'shipping' are there and if I press the 'shipping" tab all the shipping info and stuff is there as I'd expect. But if I press the 'description' tab I get the box "Item Description" and the table there in but below that just BLANK SPACE where there should be further illustrations and description, all the way down, scroll, scroll scroll, until the "Questions and answers about this item". It didn't used to be like this. If I try Chromium or Qupizilla or Konqueror there isn't this blank space. In the mean time I've regressed to 52.3 but its not making a lot of difference. There is still the 'missing middle'. So I'm now back to 45.8 to and the 'middle is no longer missing. That broke a whole pile of plugins that only worked with later versions, so I'm going to work my way forward disabling those each in turn singly. [opensuse] problem with Broadcom wireless device

I have tried many different approaches to getting my wireless device working. The error message all start with b43, and I assume the correct preface is /lib/firmware. If that is correct I cannot see what is wrong. Any ideas?
