[opensuse] Flash for Firefox - Installed rpm from adobe, links are correct, restarted - what's the trick?

All, I have a NOAA weather site that continues to use flash for radar loops, As we are under a convective SIGMET, I would like to look at the radar loop. The site is: https://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=shv&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&lo… I've installed: flash-player-npapi-25.0.0.127-release.x86_64.rpm and the links in /usr/lib64/browser-plugins is correct: libflashplayer.so -> /usr/lib64/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so I've restarted the browser, but still flash does not appear as a plugin in about:plugins and the site still complains that a Plugin is Required. Is the problem me?, is it NOAA?, is it flash? What's the trick? -- David C. Knowing libpff was written by incident responder for Google, I'm sure he would simply ignore it if only a access control mechanism. If it's encrypted, I don't see a way to enter a password (see "man pffexport") But, the README says: "handles corrupted encrypted PFF with encryption type none" In your shoes, I'd definitely give it a shot: zypper in libpff-tools pffexport ... [opensuse] gstreamer-0.10 in Leap 42.2

On a recent episode of Linux Unplugged (http://www.jupiterbroadcasting.com/107166/aws-loses-its-shiot-lup-186/) there was mention of removing gstreamer-0.10, because v1.10 can replace pretty much all its functionality and the former is very buggy and no longer maintained. Some have reported noticeable improvements in the smooth running of the system after doing so. See this post: https://forum.antergos.com/topic/5975/gstreamer0-10-packages-moved-to-aur/9 I recently did a fresh Leap 42.2 installation and it's pushing my old laptop's resources to the limit compared to 13.1, plus Firefox has begun crashing regularly, so I thought I'd have a go at removing gstreamer-0.10. Has anybody here noticed any benefits or other effects of doing so? On a more technical note for package maintainers, I've not yet succeeded since YaST threw up some conflicts. Specifically, it wanted to remove 'wammu', a program for managing mobile phone data. I had a reply from the wammu mailing list suggesting the openSUSE 'python-wxWidgets' packages that wammu uses may be at fault in incorrectly requiring gstreamer-0.10, which is apparently not the case in Debian. Could somebody check that? Here's what YaST spits out. [opensuse] I'm denied access to network edit.

Hi, Using XFCE on 42.2. When I right click on network manager, edit connection, then select a connection to edit (wireless), I get a window that doesn't fill up, then disappears, then I get another little window that says: Error initializing editor insuficient privileges It does not ask for root's password as it should. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. [opensuse] ssh access hangs on ipv4, but works fine on ipv6 ?

I have Tumbleweed running on an ARM board - seems to work very well, except ssh access over IPv4. After I type in the password, the client just hangs. Surprisingly, it works fine over IPv6. [opensuse] communicating between desltop and server

Hello, I just tested communication between desktop and server (both 42.2) and found it a bit surprising. I don't know if it's the consequence of some forgotten config of my own or some default change in the distro. [opensuse] any issue with /etc/sysconfig/network/if-up.d scripts ?

I haven't used one of these (/etc/sysconfig/network/if-up.d/*) in years, but I thought the idea is they're are all run when an interface comes up? I'm not sure, but it doesn't seem to work like that in TW. Well, my carefully crafted script is certainly being ignored :-) Looking at /etc/sysconfig/network/config in 13.2, we had GLOBAL_POST_UP_EXEC="yes" GLOBAL_PRE_DOWN_EXEC="yes" but they seem to have disappeared in TW. [opensuse] Good SuSEfirewall strategy for SOHO users?

I am using SuSEfirewall for many years without problems and I am not very interested in switching to a more flexible solution (direct iptables usage, Firewall Builder ...). But I search a good strategy for configuring SuSEfirewall, so that I can divide the network into three ore more zones: * "trusted zone": trusted network devices in my network, e.g. Linux PCs under my control * "untrusted zone": network devices in my network, which are somewhat unreliable, e.g. smartphones without recent updates, TV set-top boxes, Smart TV devices, future IoT devices ... * "internet zone": connections from the internet (some ports are forwarded in my router) I know, that I can configure such a network setup in SuSEfirewall using three networks cards, each connected with one network. But no, I only use one network card. So I can not classify the networks using the network cards, which is the standard in SuSEfirewall. Probably a good starting point is the custom rules file for SuSEfirewall: /etc/sysconfig/scripts/SuSEfirewall2-custom My questions: 1. How can I classify my network devices best? Hardware/MAC addresses are my favorite. VLAN is currently unavailable, because my router does not support VLANs. Static IP addresses (maybe configured with static DHCP assignments in my router) are an alternative to hardware/MAC addresses. (Btw, I know, that everything can be forged, but probably my smartphone would not do this.) 2. Do you have an example configuration or strategy for SuSEfirewall? 3. Is SuSEfirewall powerful enough to deal with one network device and multiple VLANs, so that it's worth to exchange the router to a model which is VLAN capable? [opensuse] Finding what package contains an uninstalled filename -- how?

I had to create a 550MB rpm-file-listing to be able to find what package or rpm a given file was in. Even then for a short name name, there are often way too many matches (410 matches for string 'cnf') to be very useful. How are users suppose to find files in their distro? I don't know of many that would know how or want to create a 550MB index even when it is useful. p.s. -- tnx, Carlos for a useful reply!
