I am running Leap with encrypted LVM (EXT4).
Now, following indications of a bug report I have to install tentatively the kernel stable (which is now 4.7 something).
I selected the base package. But trying to boot I get a failing cryptsetup due apparently to dependency error.
I really do not recall any more if I have to install supplemental packages for running kernel stable with leap.
If anybody could give me a short refresher telling me what package I am missing, I would be grateful.

Is anyone using or maintaining FreeIPA on openSUSE?
At first I was glad to see the openSUSE FreeIPA portal:
https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:FreeIPA
But there are no installable FreeIPA packages besides a Perl helper
package (perl-Net-FreeIPA).
FreeIPA on build service is broken:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/network/freeipa
Greetings,
Björn

Yes there are quite some. To tell the truth, everything will depend on what you do.
I encountered no problem with email and with the office (actually the 5.0 libre office of Leap is far more efficient than the 4.x of 13.2.
Screensaver has some trouble (but not so many). Depends also on your hardware, with Intel chip-set it is quite o.k. ATI also, with nvidia you have some quirks AFAIK.
Blender should work fine on both. Encryption on Leap with usb-key does work--

Hi,
I have finally upgraded my main hard disk, grom 500GB to 2000GB. So I
had to also migrate my 13.1 system with grub1 to a GPT disk. Worked
fine. The problem is elsewhere.
The computer is oldish, BIOS only. The main disk is GPT. The protective
MBR has "Syslinux GPTMBR (4.04-5.01)", which boots the partition that
has the flag legacy_boot.
In that partition there is a grub 2 boot system pertaining to a Leap
42.1 install. This system, instead of automatically generating entries
for other systems, has manual entries in /boot/grub2/custom.cfg like:
menuentry 'Main (with uuid)' {
insmod part_gpt
insmod ext2
set root='hd0,gpt5'
if search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root e99d9dcb-869d-4a24-94cf-cba32f169b8d ; then
chainloader +1
else
echo Could not find this OS instance, will not boot (3)
sleep 1
fi
}
(thanks to Andrei Borzenkov and others for setting up that idea)
So that the menu writes entries to the boot screen (from memory) like
these:
Leap 42.1
Advanced options for Leap
Main (with uuid)
11.4 (with uuid)
etc. Well, the question is whether it is possible to change the default
entry, which now is the first line (automatically generated) to the
third one (manually generated).

Hi,
I am here on leap 42.1, KDE 5, Libre Office Version: 5.1.3.2
Most of my system-wide installed fonts do not appear in the fonts dialog
of libreOffice. I can use all fonts in Gimp, Digikam etc., but not in
libreOffice.
I have all fonts installed as System fonts, none in personal fonts.
Under 13.2 I could use all fonts in libreOffice, too.
Is there a way to get my fonts work in this program? I am missing most
basic fonts like Helvetica etc., fonts I once bought from adobe...
Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Seeing that I can not select a predefined boot entry of my choice in
grub2 (see thread "Grub 2 question: can I configure a default entry?", I
have an alternate method possible:
Gestor:~ # parted /dev/sda print
Model: ATA ST2000DM001-1CH1 (scsi)
Disk /dev/sda: 2000GB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/4096B
Partition Table: gpt
Disk Flags:
Number Start End Size File system Name Flags
1 1049kB 8389kB 7340kB primary bios_grub
2 8389kB 21.5GB 21.5GB ext4 primary legacy_boot
3 21.5GB 37.6GB 16.1GB linux-swap(v1) primary
4 37.6GB 38.7GB 1078MB ext2 primary
5 38.7GB 39.7GB 1077MB ext2 primary
Change the "legacy_boot" flag to partition 5 or back when needed. I just
have to find a command that does that easily, on the command line.
man parted:
set partition flag state
Change the state of the flag on partition to
state. Supported flags are:
"boot", "root", "swap", "hidden", "raid", "lvm",
"lba", "legacy_boot", "irst"
and "palo". state should be either "on" or "off".
So I think it would be:
parted /dev/sda set 5 on
But I get:
Gestor:~ # parted /dev/sda set 5 on
parted: invalid token: on
Flag to Invert? ^C
Gestor:~ #
I see no examples in the man page. Ideas?

Building a new mini-server on a Gigabyte Motherboard (GA-J1900N-D3V)that has both Legacy and UEFI
support. Will maybe have software raid mirrored drives, two network interfaces, and handle mail
and firewall/routing.
Did a test install in Legacy mode to find out if all the hardware works, and am satisfied
that it does what I need for it to do.
Before I get too committed to this machine I might want to install in UEFI mode for whatever
protections it might offer against getting hacked.
Which would be wiser, stick with old legacy, or install in UEFI Mode.
Any experiences? and recommendations? Is OpenSUSE handling all aspects of UEFI well these
days? Are upgrades a pain?

Hello
In near future (~2 weeks), we would like to replace SLE-12 and SLE-12-
SP build targets/repositories in Application:Geo [1]
with openSUSE:Backports:SLE-12 and openSUSE:Backports:SLE-12-SP1 [2].
This has some advantages - common build dependencies shared with other
projects, which are not present in SLE can be placed in one common
project (openSUSE:Backports) so that:
* we can avoid package conflicts
* have some additional review/increased quality with reduced effort
* reduce need of project maintainers to check which package is linked
where and if its still needed.
What does it mean for you if you are using Application:Geo and:
* are using Tumleweed or Leap - nothing changes at all
* are using SLE-12* - you will have to replace Application:Geo/SLE_12
with Application:Geo/SLE_12_Backports or Application:Geo/SLE_12_SP1
with Application:Geo/SLE_12_SP1_Backports and add corresponding
backports repository.
We are also preparing to push gdal and its dependencies to
openSUSE:Backports project.
Apart from this, SLE-11-SP4 repo/build target is also going to be
removed as most packages were failing to build anyway. 13.1 will stay
until end of community support for Evergreen (November 2016).
In case of questions feel free to ask.
Cheers

Hi,
I'm asking because the manual is long and complex, so I may have missed it.
I know how to extract one section from a video stream. If there are
start and end marks, I can cut that "in" with -ss 00:10 -t 00:10:00
(time, duration).
input ------------<-------------------------------------->-----------
output --------------------------------------
What I wonder is if there is a method to also remove a section in the
middle. Say, from a movie with commercials.
Yes, I know there are other tools, but unfortunately ffmpeg is the only
tool that works on this particular source of streams.
The only idea I have is to produce multiple chunks and then join them,
somehow. I haven't worked out this method yet.

Hi all,
I wanted to bring your attention to two events that are coming up. The
openSUSE.Asia Summit
(https://events.opensuse.org/conference/summitasia16) will be in
Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Oct. 1 - 2. You can still submit talks until Aug.
3, which means you have 16 days left to submit a talk -
https://events.opensuse.org/conference/summitasia16/program/proposal
Also, openSUSE is sponsoring the Libre Application Summit hosted by
GNOME (http://las.gnome.org) in Portland Sept 19 - 23. This is a new
summit that focuses onevolving the desktop experience to match non-Linux
platform competitors. If you want to help represent openSUSE at the
summit, please email me.
