[opensuse] WLAN crashes

On my quite old laptop (this one: http://www.amazon.de/Samsung-R70-T7300-Despina-Notebook-Premium/dp/B000RZCL… ) with SuSE 13.1 the WLAN started to produce crashes (OS crash, No CAPSLOCK - I have to switch laptop off and on or WLAN-Hardware crash with "Unable to set up bootstrap uCode: -5 BSM uCode verification failed at addr 0x00003800+0 (of 788), is 0xffffffff, s/b 0xf802020"). This mostly happens when downloading large files with higher speed e.g. openSUSE Leap 42.1 DVD. Sometimes there are messages like: [...]iwl4965 0000:03:00.0: Queue 4 stuck for 2004 ms. [...]iwl4965 0000:03:00.0: On demand firmware reload [...]iwl4965 0000:03:00.0: Error sending C_ADD_STA: time out after 500ms. [...]laptop: HW problem - can not stop rx aggregation for <MAC address> tid 0 [...]ieee80211 phy0: Hardware restart was requested [...]iwl4965 0000:03:00.0: idx 0 not used in uCode key table. Sometimes there are no messages at all and the laptop simply got stuck. I control the WLAN with Network Manager. Hardware is a Samsung R70 WLAN 4965agn: iwl4965 0000:03:00.0: Detected Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN, REV=0x4 This started approx in December - where there some recent patches/updates which might cause this? [opensuse] manage loop mounted device by user

Hello, In my work toward booting a 32 bits uefi, I have to edit the boot part of the openSUSE Leap iso. I probably have better result using studio, but anyway I would like to troubleshoot the more obvious way, that is editing the iso itself. And, as there no reason to make it as root, I would like to make it as user. This mean using rw loop mounted files. Very long time ago, I could drive a course on file systems using loop mounted files as filesystem support, it's more easy than some may think. But this is the past. I don't know exactly the structure of the hybrid openSUSE iso , but I know there are at least two partitions in it, one fat32 for EFI and the other as iso9660 standard. I want to keep the boot capability (obviously) and so don't impact grub2 links. using http://dodin.info/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Doc.MountADiskAsUser#sDoc.MountADiskAsU… I can open the EFI partition and add to it, but the available room is very small and I can't copy there the full grub2 32 bit folder (efi file and modules - around 13Mo only). so what I need is enlarging the filesystem. Of course I don't use a dvd but a 8Gb usb stick (the openSUSE one :-), so room is not a hardware limitation. [opensuse] xrandr configuration questions

When I execute xrandr I receive, omitting the details of resolution options, Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 8192 x 8192 LVDS-1 unknown connection (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-2 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 698mm x 392mm I am running on a Alienware 18 laptop that as far as I know has an internal 1920 x 1080 screen and only has one HDMI output port. I would like to run a pair of external monitors, dual head. Any ideas on if it possible to access the HDMI-1 port, or what the DP-1 port is would be appreciated. Is there any way they have encoded two monitors in a single cable? [opensuse] Sound Died

KDE - Be Free! Platform Version 4.10.5 "release 1" Opensuse 12.3 This box quit playing any sound, Yast shows two cards, ATI and AMD and reports the Driver snd-hda-intel Kmix shows built in analog stereo and Buitlin Digital Stereo (HDMI) If I start sound in Chrome or VLC shows an audio stream from each. I have looked at the config options in yast and don't understand them. I have not changed them that I know of. What would you suggest? Such a machine (if 12.3) if it is connected to the internet is a time bomb. It will present: heartblead, openssl bugs without end, severe security wholes in the kde-desktop. And also the recent problem with glibc (and whatever else patch he did not get) not to mention the kernel. So if it is not a typo......we should at least make sure people did not find a "free" version in a 10 year old inlay of a journal. If somebody comes to you and says he is proudly using 11.1 because it was the best version ever, soooo save, never patched ever after and using it as a mail server? You probably would finally know where your spam comes from... @Bob Rea and whoever should come back to read this: So for all who want to "answer questions" once your request of help is out: why not writing it "right" in the first place? 1) Make sure you know your hardware. State clearly the mainboard, the graphic card vendor and (important! for graphics) the driver you use (proprietary or open source). In the case of our friend he stated: intel and AMD which may mean he has a mainboard with integrated graphics from AMD and a dedicated graphic card from Intel. He may have a Intel Mainboard with a dedicated AMD graphics card, He may have a notebook with a mixed chipset. He may have an HTPC. So, stating hardware correctly will give more help. 2) make sure the version of operating system is correctly stated. Therefore open a Terminal / Command Line (CLI) (a terminal is that "black box you find in the "preferred programs" of the menu) and type the following: cat /etc/os-release and paste the output here with your question. BTW there is a nice support database, you can find it at https://en.opensuse.org/Category:SDB:HOWTOs Often its lecture helps you to fix the problem all alone. P.S. if you did change the vga cable to hdmi following may happen automaticly: If formerly you used a graphics card (like sound blaster) and now you did not change cable but hear no sound. Look if in soundcard settings is pulseaudio activated. The previous versions of pulseaudio had bigger problem in ignoring or prioritizing a "analogue" soundcard instead of hdmi. So it might be necessary to go on the symbol "speaker" on the desktop, open it, to to setting of sound and there make sure that every subpoint of the device list has your analogue soundcard listed as highest preference. If not the output of sound will go through hdmi and if you do not have your boxes branched to the monitor, you will not hear anything of course. [opensuse] firefox cannot read my .mp4 files anymore

I have numerous educational videos stored in mp4 format. I can read them fine with gmplayer. When I try to open them under Firefox, I receive "video can't be played because file is corrupt". But again they read fine under gmplayer. I have tried both the flash video player, and the HTML5 video player. The label in the select box says that these are YouTube player options. Is there a different video player that I have to set up just to access the .mp4 files? I tried to RTFM, but the directions under Firefox do not appear to apply, pointing to a /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins directory as the place to store libflashplayer.so, which does not appear to exist on my machine. Along the same lines, how does one disable the upgrades of a single package like Firefox under zypper. I am really tired of chasing Firefox bugs all of the time along with fixing my constantly obsoleted plugins. And being a simple user do not see any advantage to whatever they may have fixed or improved. The old Mosaic Netscape did all I wanted dating back to the mid 90s. What ever happened to KISS?
