[opensuse] 42.1, with simple samba, trying to hide one directory inside a share, coop with windows users

Hi, feeling like a complete newbie here, and I had thought I did know something in this universe already. Apparently not :( Following <https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch08.html> and looking a bit at <https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Shares_with_Windows_ACLs> and following various google instant search suggestions where people apparently having the same situation. I have one user on the linux machine, which exists as a network user on some windows machines as well. Simple workgroup. Windows machines connecting to a "network drive letter" from their windows. All to this same share. This share used to be on some win7 machine before, needed to move over to the leap 42.1 machine. One directory while living on windows, had the +h hidden attribute. Eventually I found the "map hidden = true" config setting with samba, and I only need this hidden property of that subfolder, so that it doesnt appear when the windows users browse that share. Only to find out that no matter what kind of masks and all that I set, the hidden property e.g. via ttrib driveletter:\foldername never shows up as hidden and dir driveletter:\ always shows that foldername as visible. Via Windows gui explorer.exe setting the folders property as hidden, doesnt affect anything either, it doesnt stay hidden, stay being the wrong word, the checkbox doesnt stay ticked, when revisiting the folders properties. the checkbox never gets applied to the actual filesystem of the samba. First and foremost am I completely mistaken, that when setting via ssh and terminal directly on the linux machine, the world execute properties of that folder path chmod o+x /file/path/to/samba/share/foldername should this render that foldername folder actually as invisible when I have that map hidden = true setting in my smb.conf? Because this doesnt work either. So where does samba store this mapping if not in the actual filesystem unix flags, it can live nowhere else or am I misunderstanding what this "map" is supposed to mean? Or is this some flaw in the leap 42.1 samba? I have: samba-4.2.4-21.3.x86_64 and I am on Linux linux 4.1.34-33-default What am I doing wrong? Sysd is not something that works with other parts to achieve its output. It's design philosophy is to assume control of all pertinent stages and system functions. As time progresses, more functions are deemed necessary for it to do its job and are absorbed. Another way to think about it -- is that monolithic software is the opposite of "modular", where you can re-use different pieces of software to accomplish the same task. You may not like the definition, but if you would correctly look up the use of the term in software, you'll find it an appropriate description. [opensuse] Cleaning up aged and grown systems from cruft and leftovers

Hi there, some system just recently displays via dmesg, that some realtek ethernet driver should be changed into some newer ethernet driver. I kind of only remember modprove and all this stuff from ancient days of linux only. Never cared much for this ever since Linux became nicer in plug and play and selecting drivers automatically or distros putty mainstream modules into the shipped kernels. Where does a leap 42.1 exactly get its modules from? Do modules become merged and integrated into the kernel boot image directly, or are they really loaded from /lib/modules/.... ? How does this work currently? And glibc? How about the kernel for 13.1? Also, is it possible to get glibc packages for both 13.1 and 13.2 that have been updated to work with these latest kernels? [opensuse] audio config

I'm just trying to use audio on a relatively new PC (so I can hear a utoob video) and just get silence. What's the best source for a walk through of the steps needed to configure audio on Leap 42.1? The only pages I've found are for earlier releases so I don't know whether they are valid. [opensuse] Chromium

Since the last Chromium update Chromium will no longer keeps me logged into websites that requires a username/password. When I first log into my OpenSuSE user account and I start Chromium I find I am logged out of all of my websites that require an username/password such as myyahoo, facebook, ets. While I am still logged into my OpenSuSE user account I am able to close Chromium and restart it as many times as I want and I will stay logged into these websites . After logging out of my OpenSuSE user account all Chromium log in data is lost. Is anyone else having this problem? By what is says it confirms partly the criticism and in part is able to make some points. What is puzzling me that the post of Ayer is perceived as a "anti-systemd-fanatic". When I was reading it, I did not see this as a call to "abandon" systemd, but to limit some tendencies.
