Just encountered this looking at /etc/sysconfig/sendmail: diff between last release and systemd -- all of the comments that listed the commands on how to do various sendmail maintenance functions were removed. They were comments!!! # diff /Nroot/etc/sysconfig/sendmail /etc/sysconfig/sendmail 7d6 < ## Command: /usr/lib/sendmail.d/update 17d15 < ## Command: /usr/lib/sendmail.d/update 41d38 .... 295d272 < ## Command: /usr/lib/sendmail.d/update 306d282 < ## Command: /usr/lib/sendmail.d/update --- There was no reason to change this file at all, but to make things more 'grand' -- they [werner Fink], didn't leave ".rpmold" or put his changes in .rpmnew -- they just edited (comment removal only that I saw in this case) them in place. --- the various sendmail rc scripts that did a good job of extracting options from the /etc/sendmail.cf config file -- replaced by "semi-hidden" (in /etc/mail/system -- not a standard location for storing service start/stop scripts -- except w/systemd. A wonderful benefit -- used to be the scripts were all in /etc/init.d/xxx but now, they can all be put in private, non-standard locations to obfuscate how systemd runs. I'm not one to rant on systemd other than for substantiated reasons like this. Again -- I will say this again -- the systemd people created a war with me by sabotage like this. If they had provided backward compat options... I would have loved them -- Many of their ideas were good ideas on Windows -- Win7, at least for 5-6 years and I've often tried to mention good features in windows that would make linux better (though I have more issues of problems in windows, and probably have more 'hate MS feelings', than their positive ideas have influenced me). Most of those hate feelings come from their manipulation of customers and the marketplace to force ideas down their throats. I don't like that behavior in MS or in linux, but now systemd supporters are adopting MS's behaviors. I know MS has done the embrace, extend, extinguish thing to lock in customers and force them onto "rental plans" -- end-users are the last to be converted to that. Adobe did it to their end users ~2 years ago and I disassociated myself with their community -- as they were all going on to monthly/yearly plans and would all have the newer SW that I couldn't buy. Big game companies are doing simpler with game clients that always have to be connected and have your system monitored. The two worst in that category - EA/Bioware/MassEffect3. I bought the game. I've never played the game I bought despite many calls to EA support -- but I have played versions with all the addons that had the anti-customer DRM removed. I never got to play online with other users, but I at least got all their extras for free -- and I still have the $60, legal/licensed copy that won't work. Another game recently -- also online -- after I downloaded 30G(!!!!) of textures -- I tried to login -- it wouldn't let me -- as it said that I had some "monitoring" software running that they considered cheating (they didn't say what the SW was, but in their help pages, I saw one of the largest offenders were real-time malware scanners (like Microsoft's Home Security Essentials). Real interesting. They were uninstalled in less than a day. So please realize that the harder you attempt to force your ideas of mandatory control on users -- the more users you will lose -- because of system problems -- who may still want to use your products -- but will only have the option of using the DRM-neutered ones that will actually work on their machines). *sad* Linda p.s. sorry for going 'off topic', but the stuff happening w/suse lately has really reminded me of the capitalist, bought and owned government that continues sell out to the highest bidder. [opensuse] Can't create WPA2 network

OpenSUSE 13.1, NetworkManager I'm trying to create a WPA2 network and WPA2 isn't showing up in the list when I click on the NetworkManager icon in the lower right and select "Create New Wi-Fi Network". I have the wpa2_supplicant packages installed. [opensuse] 13.1 - Cannot Connect to Wireless AP w/o Killing Network Manager, resolve.conf not updating on return???

All, Spent the last week on a "family trip" (not vacation), and had to connect to a wireless access point. No matter what I did, network manager could not connect to this access point. My phone had no issue connecting, but 13.1 could not connect. Using my phone I found: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:WiFi and https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Tracking_down_wireless_problems Which includes at the beginning: <quote> openSUSE may occasionally encounter issues with wireless. In most cases, it will work fine with networks or WEP/WPA-secured wireless networks. However, for public wireless networks, specifically one's that are set up in coffee shops and airports, NetworkManager would suddenly ignore any attempts to connect to a network or refuse to get an IP address. </quote> This is exactly what was happening. I could see and list all available AP's with iwlist. I could manually associate the AP with my wireless connection with iwconfig, but could not actually connect to the AP. As soon as I killed network manager with rcnetwork stop, and brought wpa_supplicant back up, BINGO, the connection to the AP was automatic. Issuing the dhcpcd command obtained an address and the network was up. Apparently this has been a know issue since the 12.X days. Other than documenting the issue, has there been an progress on a consistent work-around that will allow NetwokManager to work when this problem is encountered? Upon return from the trip, a nasty side effect of the manual connection and issuance of the dhcpcd command was discovered when I connected to my AP, but had no domain information and no name service. Checking, resolv.conf was left in the state it was autoconfigured to with the vacation AP. For some reason when re-connecting to my home AP, resolv.conf was not updated. The same was true for the domain information. While those are easily resolved by setting them again, I am used to the domain information automatically updating. Is there anything specific anyone can think of in this situation that would result in the normal resolve.conf and domain information to fail to update? Hello together, this is my first post to this list, so please forgive my mistakes and give me a friendly hint if anything is inappropriate. I recently upgraded my tumbleweed by a zypper dup and after that thunderbird crashes while starting. A start from command line gives me: (process: 3030): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed That reads like a wrong GLib version. [opensuse] mouse gets powered down when on battery

I'm on openSUSE 13.2, the issue is the same for both plasma5 and kde4. I furiously hate touchpads, so taking mouse everywhere and configured plasma5 to disable touchpad when mouse is present. However, when I'm on battery the mouse gets disabled after 2-3 seconds of inactivity. To enable it again I have to click with either button, but it does not respond to move or wheel. I remember couple of years ago I've already had that issue and had to change something in udev rules to leave mouse work even on battery. I'm skeptical this word gets used just as often in the same situation with men, so my position is that it's best set aside. Linda used the word rant elsewhere so I think it's fine to say that. Anyway, the clear part is frustration has boiled over. That's good motivation. But what I'm missing is the connection to systemd. It's not necessary but if someone wants to school the clueless guy: Did /etc/sysconfig/sendmail have user comments that were stepped on when the file was replaced with an update? Or were these comments in the original and just removed in the updated? rpmnew and rpmsave predate the systemd stuff so I don't see the relevance, but then I'm also not seeing what was removed. [opensuse] Autodisconnect of usb-disk-dock

Hi, In a thread about two months ago a USB disk-docking station was mentioned (Aukey Super Speed USB3.0 Dual Bay ...). I bought it, but I don't know what's happening with it. I wanted to use it as my backup-station for my NAS. I was testing it, but it was not reliable. So I tested it on my Opensuse 13.2 laptop. There it also has "problems". What happens is that after a while of not using it, the connection is dropped. I can't access it any more. I have to remove power and power it on again before I can use it. I was wondering if this is expected behaviour, or is the dock malfunctioning ? Any suggestions to investigate this further ? [opensuse] specific calendar program for linux

Hello: I'm looking for a calendar program for linux with a specific view area. it should look similar to the one in this image: http://i59.tinypic.com/3358g91.jpg Days should be in horizontal order only, and places, hours of days etc. vertically. Tasks or names could be assigned to specific places/hours during specific days. For example John Doe will be staying in New York from Aug. 18-22. Would be nice if I could export/save the data and open/import them on another machine. Is there something like this, open source or free, for linux? All calendars I looked at (screenshots) has days both horizontally and vertically.
