I recently came across an article about Wireshark v1.12.4 and how it fixes security problems. My system shows version 1.10.12-32.01. Is the version included with openSUSE really that far behind? I think in fact my names (ethXX) are always the same as those allocated by the kernel. Sofar I have never had any problems with names clashing. I guess "simply leave it to kernel" means using net.ifnames=0 ? Just wondering out loud - surely the loading sequence of the network drivers is important too? On one system I see 'e1000' loaded first, followed by 'tg3'. e1000 is for a 4port gigE card, tg3 is for two builtin gigE interfaces. My renaming makes the two tg3 interface = eth0, eth1 and the e1000 eth2-3-4-5. [opensuse] Dell Inspiron 5520 Sleep

Hi All, I have come across another small issue with the Dell Inspiron 5520. I put the laptop to sleep (by closing the lid and also by the sleep icon) and this works fine. I wake the laptop up again and this works fine. At this point if I try to put the laptop to sleep, hibernate or shutdown it does nothing. (In the case of shutting down, I have a black screen with a blinking cursor on all sessions). Any ideas on how to diagnose this? [opensuse] Memtest86+ 5.01 won't start from Grub

No matter which rpm from, 13.2 or TW, i586 or x86_64, openSUSE or Mageia or Fedora, or upstream binary, I've never been able to get any build of 5.01 to start from Grub on any Intel CPU system. Trying from Grub and HD simply triggers a reboot. Most recent failures here have been with E8400 Core2Duo on G43 chipset with PC2-6400 RAM, and E6700 Core2Duo on P965 chipset with PC2-6400 RAM. I don't see anything in relnotes to account for this. http://forum.canardpc.com/threads/28864-FAQ-please-read-before-posting indicates running from bootloader on "some computers" fails, resulting in "error 28" and has no workaround. I get no message, just the reboot. 5.01 from DVD boot does work. Hi, I'm getting redirect loop errors from Chrome 40 and FireFox 36 anytime I'm logged in and access openSUSE forums. If I'm not logged in, I can see the forums. Any advice? This is what I'm doing: 1. https://forums.opensuse.org/forum.php 2. Upper right corner click Login 3. Enter login info, click Login 4. Error The page isn't redirecting properly Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies. This even happens with a new OS user account, so all new clean FireFox preferences and no add-ons. Same for Chrome. In FireFox Browser Console this is what I see right after step 3, just as the Error appears; Cross-Origin Request Blocked: The Same Origin Policy disallows reading the remote resource at https://decibelinsight.net/da/?type=patch&wid=17538&sid=6BA9019E8E09511A801…. [opensuse] trying to re-add USB printer

HI I've had a Samsung laser connected on an USB port for a few years now, all working quite well. I change the cartridges and they were all recognised by the printer fine but i could no longer print anything. So i went back to basics and decided to delete it and re-add it. Its aSamsung CLP-325W (wireless) laser. Now, using Yast (and CUPS), detection of the printer will not find a USB connection. It comes back with the following options but no USB: 1. a serial:/dev/ttyS0. 2. socket: and ipp: network addressed with correct model but also cannot print a test page (error: "Unable to add document to print job") 3: parallel:/dev/lp0 The "Connection Wizard" gives you a USB option but there is nothing in the list to select. I've tried moving the printer USB cable to other working slots but still no joy. Anybody have any ideas how i can get an opensuse 13.2 tumbleweed KDE 4.14.5 system to recognise a printer on a USB port? I have not actually had many problems in this respect, but this one is odd - I rebooted a xen guest, and it came up without syslog-ng. No problem. I suspect the initial start-up needed something that wasn't quite ready, but it's difficult to tell from the logs. In syslog-ng.conf I see: include "/run/syslog-ng/additional-log-sockets.conf"; which contains: source chroots { }; I suspect that file was missing on start-up ? It seems to be prepared by the syslog-ng service unit in ExecStartPre. [opensuse] Buffer overflow on SLP service

Hi guys, I asked the question on the forums ( https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/505594-Buffer-overflow-on-SLP-se… ), but is not answered. I've configured an installation server on my LAN using HTTP and everything works fine. My problem is now I want announcing the repo over SLP. So, I follow the steps from this manual: https://activedoc.opensuse.org/book/opensuse-reference/chapter-2-remote-ins… I've created the file /etc/slp.d/install.suse.http.reg and added these lines: service:install.suse:http://IPADDRESS/path/to/OSS/,en,65535 description=Local repo Then I load the daemon using "service slpd start". //Using "service slpd status" I can see the daemon active (running). Finally, I insert the network install CD on another computer and boot up, then I choose SLP and after some delay an error occurs: "Please make sure your installation medium is available". //If I type again "service slpd status" on the server, now the daemon is stopped. So, both computers have dialogued and something has been broken on the server. "service slpd status" replies: slpd.service - OpenSLP daemon for the Service Location Protocol Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/slpd.service; enabled) Active: failed (Result: signal) since Thu 2015-02-26 09:04:28 WET; 58s ago Process: 1672 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/slpd -d (code=killed, signal=ABRT) Main PID: 1672 (code=killed, signal=ABRT) Feb 26 09:04:28 codex slpd[1672]: *** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/sbin/slpd terminated and "journalctl -xn" replies: feb 26 09:04:28 codex slpd[1672]: *** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/sbin/slpd terminated I've configured the daemon as Broadcast and as Multicast modes. Same result. If I choose HTTP as source and type the same URL on the client everything works fine and the installation starts. Firewall is stopped on the server. The system is openSUSE 13.2 x86_64 and openslpd-server version is 2.0.0. What am I doing wrong? [opensuse] OT: getting rid of new firefox sync

Hi, I tried new firefox sync but it is not useful for me (*), so I deleted the acccount. Now every time firefox starts it says "sync error: invalid account or password". I don't find any settings within ff to completely disconnect from sync, nor can I enter in the account, of course, as I have deleted it (I tried, but it correctly denies with "no such account"). How can I get rid of this message that resides in a black bar at bottom and eats up space every time I start ff? Thanks for hints. Daniel -- (*) only for the interested: details, why new ff-sync is of no use for me: After a new OS install on my laptop I wanted to sync firefox, as I always did, but I could not add the new browser the normal way. Sadly I had to open an account. Ok, I did. And then firefox was so polite to delete all my settings and bookmarks in my main computer and replace them with the default values of the new install (lucky me that I'm a paranoid backupper). There is absolutely no way to tell ff which way it should sync. I tried several ways (first this, then that and reverse, make another new ff-sync-account on the main machine and then install new ff on the laptop - zapp: all settings, bookmarks... gone. So, in fact for me ff doesn't have a sync function anymore.
